Welcome New Fraternity & Sorority Affairs Staff!
Fraternity & Sorority Affairs would like to welcome four new staff members to our team this year. We are very excited to have them on board!

Kadeem Fuller joined the FSA staff early August as a Graduate Assistant.  Kadeem is a 2015 University of South Alabama graduate and a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated.  Kadeem is currently obtaining his PhD in Education Policy Organization and Leadership.  To learn more about Kadeem visit

Makenzie Finks joined the FSA Staff in early August as a Graduate Assistant. Update Your Roster!
Please update your chapter roster online. Now is the time to remove all members that graduated in May or August and others that may not be returning for any reason. Panhellenic Council Chapters must update their roster by Tuesday, August 29, 2016  Both Panhellenic & Fraternity and Sorority Affairs need accurate membership information for each chapter prior to recruitment - please help us out by updating your roster! Fall Semester Certified Housing Workshop
Mark Your Calendars! Attendance at this meeting is required as a part of your organization’s certification. You will be receiving your City inspection date, inspection fee invoice, and Greek Housing Meeting schedule.  All of these forms are vital if you wish to remain certified by the University. There are deadlines associated with each document so it is important that the information is shared with the right person from your organization immediately following the meeting. Again, attendance is mandatory so plan for someone to attend, ideally your House Manager or Chapter President.

Fire Factor Academy
A cooperative effort of the Fraternity & Sorority Affairs, Housing, the City of Champaign, the City of Urbana, and Illinois Fire Service Institute. The Fire Factor Academy teaches life safety lessons that prepare you to be Safer on Campus, Safer for Life. It is an expectation of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs if your organization has a Certified Housing Unit on campus, that at least one member participates in Fire Factor during the fall semester.

Greek life Balance Signups for Fall 2016  
Greek Life Balance is taking sign-ups for Fall 2016! This no-cost, points-earning, co-created wellness program initiative between Fraternity & Sorority Affairs and the McKinley Health Center strives to provide flexible, chapter-requested programming for a variety of health and wellness topics, including but not limited to: stress and time management, sexual health, nutrition, etc. If your chapter is interested in participating in Fall 2016, please email Jessica Campion at for more information!

University of Illinois 2016 Homecoming Court Information!
Applications for the 2016 Homecoming Court are now available at 2016 Homecoming Court Application. This honor is given to 20 student leaders in senior standing who are selected based on their academic achievements, campus leadership, and community involvement. Those selected to serve on the court are viewed as role models for their peers and outstanding representatives of the University of Illinois student body. Please help recognize campus leaders and forward this email to any student you know that may be interested in applying for the 2016 Court.

Also, you may nominate a student for the court by sending the name and email address to We will send a message to the student inviting the person personally to apply and letting the person know that a member of the University community thinks they would be a good addition to the court.

Applicants must submit their completed application by Friday, September 2nd, so nominate them now. 

Intramural Activities - Greek Cup  
The Greek Cup Trophy will be awarded annually to the Fraternity and Sorority Houses that accumulate the highest point total by the end of the academic year through Intramural Sports competition. Teams representing each Greek organizations will score points according to the scoring system (detailed below) through participation in the Fraternity Greek Cup and Sorority Greek Cup intramural sport leagues. At the end of the year, points earned from each sport will be added together for a final total to decide a champion organization.

Greek Cup Trophy
The winner of the Fraternity Greek Cup and the Sorority Greek Cup will have their organizations name and year inscribed upon the Greek Cup Trophy. The Fraternity Greek Cup and the Sorority Greek Cup will both be displayed at the ARC.

Greek Cup Team Registration
To create / join a team within the Fraternity Greek Cup or Sorority Greek Cup leagues, please sign up via the IM Leagues website.  Greek organizations are limited to signing up ONE team per sport. If your organization wishes to have more than one team, please register only one in the Greek Cup division and the rest under a respective men’s, women’s or co-rec division.

Greek Cup Eligibility  In Order to be eligible to participate in the Fraternity or Sorority Greek Cup Leagues, organizations must be a member of the

  • Black Greek Council (BGC)
  • Interfraternity Council (IFC)
  • Pan-Hellenic Council (PHC)
  • United Greek Council (UGC)

Additionally, organizations must be recognized and in good standing with the University of Illinois Fraternity and Sorority Affairs office in order to participate in the FGC and SGC leagues.  For more information please email

Driven by an unwavering belief in the power of the individual to make change, Bree Newsome established herself as a touchstone of empowerment for disenfranchised people around the world when she tore down the Confederate flag in front of the South Carolina statehouse in 2015, in the name of social justice and equality. A graduate of NYU's Tisch School of the Arts, Newsome seamlessly blends her artistic talents with her passionate activism, educating and inspiring audiences to organize and stand together to transform society into a world where the lives and contributions of all individuals are recognized equally.

PSYC 496 ID3: Facilitating Intergroup Dialogue Processes (3 credits) 
Fall 2016 (CRN: 37966)

How can we have productive and strategic conversations about social justice issues? How can we build understanding across difference? PSYC 496 ID3 (ID4 is available for graduate students) provides students a general overview of the skills and knowledge needed to facilitate culturally diverse group interactions. The course is open to undergraduate (ID3) and graduate students (ID4). Students will explore the impact of gender, ethnicity, race, religious identity, sexual orientation, socioeconomic class, disability and physical appearance on group dynamics, while also building their own skills to facilitate this dialogues.

Volunteer Opportunities
Campus and Community Food Drive
Date: September 12-27
Help collect food items for the Eastern Illinois Foodbank during September for Hunger Action Month! This is a great activity for your student organization or campus group to pitch in. Look for more information and designated drop-off days soon.

Adult Services: Computer Cleaning Volunteer
Volunteers are needed to assist with cleaning tasks for library public computers and keyboards so that they remain in good condition for public use. Preferred schedule options would include Monday through Saturday, 8:30 am to 10:30 am and Sunday, 11 am to 1 pm.
An interview with a volunteer coordinator must be completed before volunteer work can begin. Please email or call 217/403-2070 to schedule an interview.
