No Solicitation Allowed in University Housing

If a company or organization visits your apartment to sell a service of any kind, please tell them that solicitation is not permitted on University property, including all University-owned apartments.

Recently, we have learned that energy companies in particular have been coming to resident’s doors to speak to with them about switching energy providers. This month we have received a number of complaints from residents regarding  Clearview Energy coming to their door and asking to see a copy of their latest Ameren bill with promises of lower energy rates.

Please follow these important steps should anyone other than a University Housing staff member, Comcast service technician, friend, or family member knocks on your door:

  • Inform the person at your door (you don’t even need to open the door) that they are not allowed to go door-to-door as they are on University property where no solicitation of any kind is allowed.
  • Do not give the person at your door any personal information. Do not give them your name, telephone number, or family information. It is very important that you do not show them any of your personal documents, including your Ameren bill where they can see your account number.
  • Contact the Family & Graduate Housing office to report the solicitation incident. You may call the office at 217-333-5656 or send an email to

If you have any concerns or questions, please feel free to contact the Family & Graduate Housing office.

University Housing now offers access to XFINITY On Campus allowing you to stream TV, movies, and more on any device. You also get access to a cloud DVR to record your favorite programs. Leaseholders in University owned apartments can access this service with your NetID and password. When you are not on the campus network (IllinoisNet or Illinois_guest), you can access a reduced lineup of channels and your cloud DVR.

For instructions on how to access XFINITY on Campus or use the Xfinity TV app, visit

Pest Control

University Housing provides pest control services for those living in our buildings. If you suspect you have an infestation of insects, please submit an online Housing Maintenance iService Work Request detailing your problem and the specific areas of your apartment where you have observed bug activity. Pest Management staff will respond promptly to your request and deal with the problem.

To help keep pests to a minimum, the pest control staff recommends the following:

  • Keep your living area clean and dry. Moisture attracts pests as does garbage and boxes. Keep your kitchen and bathroom floor dry and store items in plastic containers rather than cardboard boxes.
  • Do not use over-the-counter bug sprays in your apartment. Using bug sprays can cause insects to run all over your living area and into neighboring apartments and rooms. Some of the chemicals in these sprays are not desirable and most likely will not take care of the pest problem long term.
  • Do not pick up any mattresses you may find near a trash dumpster or outside on the curb. People will often throw away a seemingly perfect looking mattress because it has a problem such as bed bugs.
  • Beware of used mattresses that someone gives or sells to you. These mattresses can also carry bed bugs and other types of pests. It is always best to purchase a new mattress whenever possible.

The University Housing pest control staff is a licensed and they use an Integrated Pest Management program to provide safe and effective pest control. Please allow these trained professionals to help you with your pest control issues.
