A group of 45 students spent a day in the city of Indianpolis volunteering with the Keep Indianapolis Beautiful 7-year program where students and OVP Staff planted trees along the roads. Later, students visited local landmarks like the Indiana Catacombs and the Indianapolis Zoo! To read more about their exciting day, check out the blog here

OVP Service Saturdays!!
 
 

OVP Staff will lead a local service trip to Delight Flower Farm in Champaign to plant seeds and do field work. Delight Flower Farm is an evironmentally friendly flower farm providing the community with a local, chemical free flower grower that helps aid in land and pollinator restoration.

Regularly Needed Volunteer Opportunities

SOAR tutoring is schedule for TWR from 2-3:15pm for 10 weeks from 2/13 to 4/26. Illinois students are paired with a child during that time and are asked to commit once a week during that time, but can choose to volunteer more than once a week if they want to. SOAR tutoring includes reading, homework assistance, and social activities with the child. Spanish-speaking skills are not necessary in order to participate. Tutors will need to complete a background check through the Champaign School District. The SOAR program coordinator will provide the clearance form for the tutors. This opportunity is especially interesting to Illinois students who want to gain cross-cultural awareness and relationship skills. The Society for the Advancement of Hispanics/Chicanos and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS) collaborates with the Urbana Dual-Language Program to host an outreach program called Cena y Ciencias. We are looking for who are passionate about teaching science, serving the community, and can speak Spanish fluently. "Parent Life" program outreaches to young moms between ages of 13- 25. This program will help the young moms design their new vision. While the young moms come to class, they typically bring their kids along to the session. Volunteers will help take care of the children. If you are interested, please sign up here! Assist members of the public with collaborative ("do-it-together") troubleshooting and minor repair of electronics and small appliances. Work with IGG staff to research problems and diagnose solutions. Opportunities to assist with regular appointments/open hours and special pop-up events. The location of activities will vary. You may assist with appointments at our workshop at 1833 S. Oak St. in Champaign, or at "pop-up" events in various public spaces on and off campus (e.g. UGL Media Commons or a public library off-campus), and IGG will provide transportation. The Champaign Farmers' Market is looking for volunteers to help set up,  pack up, and keep the market running smoothly. Volunteers are needed Every Tuesday. Shifts are between 1:30pm-7:30pm (different shifts available) from May 15-October 30. Volunteers must provide their own transportation. Reflections Memory Care - until 12/31

Volunteer during the days and on weekends to do activities with residents that have Alzheimer's and Dementia. The location is off campus past the Walmart in Savoy (62 E Airport Rd, Savoy, IL 61874) and the volunteer will need to provide their own transportation. Volunteer Illini Projects (VIP), one of the oldest and largest service groups on the UIUC campus, is looking for interested individuals that are passionate in service and leadership to apply for a position as a Public Relations director for our volunteering group.
