Campus Bike Center

The Campus Bike Center is a collaboration between The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and The Bike Project of Urbana-Champaign (501c3). The Facilities and Services (F&S) department staffed and administrated the campus operations of the Campus Bike Center. As of December 2017, the Campus Bike Center is now staffed and administered by Campus Recreation (Campus Rec).

In 2011, Facilities and Services reached out to Student Sustainability Committee and Natural Resources to fund the creation of a Bike Center on campus. The Bike Project provided the membership structure and volunteers to make the space a success. Last academic year saw 4,218 Campus Bike Center visitors.

Currently all membership services and Campus Bike Center fees and policies remain the same. The change in campus departments will have many benefits- one of which will be the support and programming expansion of the Campus Bike Center.

This spring Campus Recreation and the Campus Bike Center offered two Bike Maintenance 101 classes in MP6 at the ARC. These classes focused on the basics to get the community ready for active commuting. Through collaboration with campus partners we will be expanding upon the May 1st Bike to Work Day programmatic offerings and we will host our first Bike Rodeo on May 5.

Campus Recreation is hiring 6, Campus Bike Center Service Associates who will be responsible for peer education and upkeep of the center. Service Associates work between 4-20/hours weekly covering the open hours of the bike center; 2-6 pm Mon-Thurs, 2-5:30 pm on Friday as well as special events and programs. Apply now.
