The proposed mega-merger of Canadian Pacific Railway and CSX Corp. could reduce the multibillion-dollar cost of efforts by Chicago, Illinois, and the U.S. DOT to decongest the Chicago bottleneck, says Steve Schlickman, head of the UIC Urban Transportation Center. "It would address the 19th-century disconnect between west and east railroads that still plagues freight operations," he said.

Over the centuries, a philosophical position regarding sexuality and procreation determined the Catholic Church's official teaching on many of the topics just addressed during the Vatican Synod. Ralph Keen, Schmitt Chair of Catholic Studies at UIC, is available to explain the evolution of church doctrine on sexuality and discuss the reasons some of the ideas entertained during the Synod are so controversial.
