Hey, freshmen and sophomores! Thinking of running for your chapter’s executive board? Want to help lead your chapter in being the best it can be? If so, apply to Emerging Leaders, the Illinois Greek community's annual leadership conference! Participants will learn how to enhance their leadership skills and apply them to bettering both Greek-letter organizations and the greater university. Two members will be selected from each constituent chapter as participating representatives. Emerging Leaders will be held on Sunday, October 11. To apply, click here. Fire Factor  
A cooperative effort of the University of Illinois, the City of Champaign, the City of Urbana, and Illinois Fire Service Institute. The Fire Factor Academy teaches life safety lessons that prepare you to be Safer on Campus, Safer for Life. It is an expectation of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs that if your organization has a Certified Housing Unit on campus, that at least one member participates in Fire Factor during the calendar year (Academies are offered once per year). Attention IFC Chapters, if your chapter did not participate in the Spring 2015 Academy, then you must participate in the Fall 2015 Academy to earn IGI points.

Fusion Stroll 2015
What is Fusion Stroll you might ask?  It’s a cross-chapter stroll competition co-sponsored by the Bruce D. Nesbitt African American Cultural Center, Fraternity & Sorority Affairs, and La Casa Cultural Latina.  This event is an educational program aimed at providing members in fraternities and sororities who do not traditionally step, stroll or salute, the opportunity to learn about these historic aspects to cultural fraternal organizations.  Moreover, it’s a great opportunity to meet members from chapters thus strengthening the bonds of interfraternal relations.

To participate, your chapter does not need to have any experience in stepping, strolling or saluting.  All you’d need to do is register for the competition. 

This year’s Fusion Stroll competition will be held on Friday, October 16th from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. in Lincoln Hall Theatre.

University of Illinois Homecoming 5K Run/Walk
The annual Homecoming 5K is back! With orange and blue all around, this event will kick off the 2015 University of Illinois Homecoming Week, so you definitely will not want to miss it. Come out to support your favorite school, and whether you come walking or running, make sure you come to have fun. Registration is up and running:

Greeks Support Homecoming BBQ and Bags Tournament
October 21st.
This is one of our most popular events for Homecoming week. All members and non-fraternity members are invited to this event. As always, there will be FREEE food, prizes, live music, and entertainment. There will also be the annual Bags tournament! Please encourage your members to come and stay for awhile, it will be an amazing event this year! Members should wear the Greeks Support Homecoming t-shirts to the BBQ to show off their Greek Pride and support for Homecoming!

Apply to Become an I-Connect Facilitator
Are You Passionate About Diversity and Inclusion? Will you like to help make change on your campus? Become an I-Connect Facilitator!!! Diversity and Social Justice Education is looking for undergraduate students to facilitate I-Connect Diversity and Inclusion Workshops starting in Spring 2016.

The I-Connect Diversity and Inclusion Workshop is an initiative of the Office of Inclusion and Intercultural Relations, and the Division of Student Affairs. Students of color, LGBTQ students and allies, international students, and students with disabilities are highly encouraged to apply. Students of diverse backgrounds will be able to use their to use their positionality and their unique perspectives to guide new students to look understand and accept diversity and inclusion not only on the University of Illinois campus, but in their personal and professional lives as well. Experience facilitating difficult conversations is a must! The position is paid, and interviews will be held in mid-October.

Volunteer Opportunities  
PVO Children's sale   Prairieview-Ogden Parent Teacher Organization is seeking volunteers for their Children’s sale, a local community service event.  
Date: October 24 
Time: 11:30-2:00pm

We’re looking for volunteers to help with clean-up of the sale.  
Just as it sounds, we clean up the school and reorganize our sale equipment.  Depending on the number of unsold items, our end time may be earlier than 2pm.

Some possible tasks include:

  • Sorting final sale tags into vendors’ envelopes
  • Organize vendor totes/boxes into logical order for packing
  • Sorting unsold items into vendor numbers & packing back into their totes/boxes
  • Taking down tables or sale racks & returning to bus garage
  • Returning table sizing signs to bus garage
  • Sweeping gym, stage and lobby area
  • Taking trash to school trash container
  • Loading unsold, donated items in pickup vehicle

Orpheum Children's Science Museum
The Orpheum relies on its enthusiastic team of volunteers accomplish its mission. Volunteer opportunities come in all shapes and sizes, depending on the interests and skills of the volunteers and the needs of the museum. To learn more go to:

Fight Hunger by Volunteering with the Food Pantry  
The Wesley Pantry is training for new volunteers to assist with shifts related to food distribution: truck unloads, setups, cleanups, food distributions, etc. Every 1st and 3rd Saturday, 9:30-noon; Every 2nd and 4th Wednesday 10:30-11:45a, 11:45-1p, 3:30-4:45p, and 4:45-6p; Every 3rd Thursday, 3:15-5:30p and 5:15-7:30p. Welsley Pantry is located on Campus while the Parkland location is on the CU-MDT Green line.
