MTD Service Adjustments

MTD has reduced bus service because of staffing shortages. Campus hopper routes will remain unchanged, but passengers may experience increased wait times with fewer shuttles operating. Also, many routes and connections that individuals regularly use to reach the general campus area have been adjusted or rescheduled.

Before making a trip, please check the updated schedules on the MTD website, which uses real-time tracking data. You can also sign up for custom alerts once logged in to your MTD account.

Updated testing guidance and other COVID-19 updates

Based on guidance from our SHIELD team, the university is updating testing guidance. Beginning on Oct. 16:

  • If you are fully vaccinated with a university-verified record in the MyMcKinley Portal, you are not required to participate in the testing program.
    • The only exception is if you receive a notification that you are in a location or group with increased cases and need to test every other day for a period of time.
  • If you are not fully vaccinated and you have an approved medical or religious vaccination exemption, you are required to test and receive negative results every other day.
  • If you are not fully vaccinated with a university-verified record and you do not have an approved medical or religious vaccination exemption, you are required to test and receive negative results every other day until you are fully vaccinated.
    • Employees who are required to test are not required to test on their non-work days or on remote days, if working a hybrid remote schedule.
    • Employees working at remote, off-site university facilities should follow the established testing frequencies at their location.

The Institute for Sustainability, Energy, and Environment (iSEE) is announcing a call for proposals to support interdisciplinary research projects on topics related to sustainability, energy, and environment. The iSEE seed funds are available to promote research collaborations among faculty and scientists across campus that will improve their potential for attracting external support.

The goal of the funding is to enable interdisciplinary research teams working in any of the five thematic areas of interest to iSEE to collect preliminary data or other information and to develop a strong proposal that can be submitted for external funding through the Institute in 2022-23. The deadline for proposal submissions is Nov. 9 at 5 p.m.

ASSOCIATE CHAIR FOR FACULTY

Message from the ACF

I encourage faculty members and postdocs to take advantage of these upcoming opportunities and resources:

  • NSF-DMS grant programs – summer salary and RA support. Deadlines: various during the Fall.
  • ACF website – links to many grant programs.
  • ACF Resources Box folder – contains examples of successful grant proposals to the NSF, Simons Foundation, and Campus Research Board. It’s useful to see what has worked for some of our colleagues.

I am also looking for samples of conference proposals and research-in-pairs type proposals for our ACF resources. I’d be happy to receive any successful proposals you are able to share. Please feel free to send these via email to laugesen@illinois.edu.

Thank you,
Richard Laugesen
Associate Chair for Faculty
