Women in Engineering Newsletter
Fall 2016 Newsletter for Prospective Students

Women in Engineering (WIE) is a support program in the College of Engineering at the University of Illinois. WIE is dedicated to providing a welcoming and supportive environment for current women students as well as high school students that are interested in learning more about engineering as a potential major and career. This newsletter will inform you of upcoming events and opportunities to explore engineering on our campus!

Calling all high school girls: Getting ready for college? Want to learn more about engineering? Join the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) and the Women in Engineering program for a fun day of hands-on activities and demonstrations to explore the many different fields of engineering that you can pursue! Engineering Round Robin will be held Saturday, October 8th from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  To register and find more information about the event, click here.  The cost is $5 and includes a t-shirt and lunch.  If you have any questions contact Meridain at and Molly at

Orange and Blue Days are large, day-long events for prospective students and their families. Programming consists of an admission presentation covering academics and campus life, the admissions process, and a question-and-answer session with current students. Throughout the day there will be opportunities to tour campus and attend sessions hosted by housing, financial aid, and the Engineering department. Programs begin at 9:30 a.m. and last until the mid-afternoon.

To register with campus to attend an Orange and Blue Day, please sign up here! Women in Engineering will host a reception from 12:00 p.m. to 12:45 p.m. on all Orange and Blue Days. This is a great chance to learn more about the WIE Program, opportunities on campus, and talk with current women engineering students. The specifics of the WIE Reception, including room location, will be on the Orange and Blue Agenda you will receive during check-in. Please contact us at with any questions.

Are you a high schooler interested in math, science, and engineering? Do you think that solar power is the future of energy? Do you want to learn more about solar energy, and obtain some hands-on experience with soldering a circuit board?

Come join InSPIRE at the University of Illinois! We are hosting a workshop for high school students to learn more about solar energy and build their very own solar-powered cell-phone charger! If you are interested, please follow this link below to sign up.
