Find out more about the committee: http://www.sucss.illinois.gov/Boards/eac.aspx?osm=c15 or contact Jill Odom (jillodom@illinois.edu.)
We are still seeking persons interested in joining various committees. I encourage you to contact me or any committee member to learn more about any of the committees that interest you! It’s a great way to meet new people and interact on a more intimate level. Most committees only meet a few times a year, so the time commitment is not overwhelming but it’s a great opportunity if you’re looking to add to your portfolio!
Lastly, I would like to congratulate Jim McGraw, winner of the September Riddle! How do you fix a flat pumpkin? With a Pumpkin Patch! I would also like to congratulate Jane Baumgartner, she won a Black Dog gift certificate that Michael Foellmer so kindly donated as an effort for members to bring a guest to the luncheon. |

SOCIAL EVENTS
The first tour has been planned and it is an exciting one! Please mark your calendars and RSVP to TheSecretariat@illinois.edu for the tour of the Illinois Fire Service Institute on Wednesday, November 2. This tour will take place at their facilities on Galen Drive and attendees are advised to wear closed-toe shoes and appropriate outerwear to stay warm. The tour will begin at 4:45 p.m. and end at approximately 5:30 p.m. This is a date when one of the classes will be having a controlled burn and we will be able to view the exercises as they are held. Directions to the location will be sent to individuals interested in the tour.
After 5:00 p.m. Plans – Mark your calendars on Thursday, October 13 and plan to meet your Secretariat colleagues and their guests after work at Houlihan’s. The cooler temps may force us to move inside, but we will still have an enjoyable evening reconnecting with our fellow Secretariat members and guests while listening to some lively music. If you plan to join us, kindly send a note to TheSecretariat@illinois.edu so we can reserve enough space for the entire group.
Future Tours – There are plans for a tour of the WILL television studios and the opportunity to watch the taping of a Master Gardner’s program; however, this tour will occur in the spring. With the potential for the trip to be canceled because of Presidential debates, it was decided the best time to watch the Master Gardner’s would be in the spring as everyone is preparing for a new growing season.
Other possible tours or events being considered:
- Altgeld Chimes tour
- Art party or Paint Your Own Pottery
- Krannert Center for Performing Arts
- State Farm Center
- University Archives
- Walking scavenger hunt with Wellness Center
Suggestions and Ideas - Do you know of some place on campus or in the surrounding community that would be interesting for Secretariat members to visit? Have an idea for a fun lunch hour or evening event? Send us a note and tell us! We welcome ideas, suggestions and feedback.
Sincerely,
Andréa Fain amfain@illinois.edu
