FEATURED FACULTY + STAFF

Aldo Manfroi

"I’m not just teaching the theorems, the rules. My approach is more about: How do we apply this? How do we solve this problem?"

Earlier this year, the University of Illinois Alumni Association featured senior lecturer Aldo Manfroi in their "In Class" interview series, a UIAA series featuring impact and innovation in the classroom. Manfroi was recognized for his exceptional approach to teaching as a 2020 recipient of the university's Campus Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching, where it was noted “he makes it a point to relate to his students on a personal level, greeting and conversing with individual students and engaging them throughout the lecture.”

Kallan McCormick looking at the summer issue of Math Times.

College may be several years off, but Kallan McCormick of San Francisco is getting a head start learning all about the Department of Mathematics. Kallan, who is the 17-month-old son of alumnus Andrew McCormick (BS, ’06, mathematics and physics), reportly enjoyed reading the summer issue of Math Times so much that his grandmother, Chris McCormick, snapped a photo to share with the department.

Need to catch up on the latest issue like Kallan?
