Greg Hall basement renovation

The College of Media's long-awaited renovation of our basement instructional spaces is underway with a completion date of late 2020/early 2021. The computer lab in Gregory Hall Room 31 will have adaptable seating and screens stationed around the whole room. Contractors have nearly finished in-wall work, rerouting the pipes and cables that used to be strewn across the ceiling and walls. Soon the stacks of sheetrock (at left) will be installed.

UIUC researchers awarded NSF grant to track misinformation on COVID-19

Last fall, a group of University of Illinois professors created a research project to study misinformation about health practices. In the spring, however, they shifted their focus to COVID-19 misinformation, a timely study that essentially would indicate that the Internet “really isn't an arbiter of truth,” among other goals. This summer, the group was awarded a $150,000 RAPID grant by the National Science Foundation to continue this research.

Representation in Media
Thursday, November 5

The 2020 Chaz & Roger Ebert Symposium Series premieres tonight! In a panel moderated by Ebertfest co-founder Chaz Ebert and Ebertfest director Nate Kohn, they will examine how movies get made, who gets to make them, and how movies get to be seen and exhibited in light of recent challenges. Panelists include directors Melissa Haizlip, Malcolm Lee, Mary Mazzio, and Christine Swanson; film industry executives Michael Barker, with Sony Pictures Classics, and Neal Block, with Magnolia Pictures; Darrien Michele Gipson, the executive director of SAGindie, which connects actors with independent filmmakers; and entertainment lawyer Nina Shaw.

College of Media faculty members will moderate the panels on October 22 and November 5. Each event will be broadcast on both the Ebertfest YouTube channel and Facebook page at 5 p.m. CST on their respective dates.
