Roberta and I send you our fondest greetings and best wishes for health and happiness in 2017. We hope the season brings you the warmth of family and friends, cherished memories, and peace and renewal for the new year. We have created a short video message, and I hope you will join us in celebrating all the U of I stands for this holiday season.
I am proud of everything we accomplished together in 2016, weathering deep financial challenges with our excellence intact thanks to the commitment and creativity of our leadership, faculty and staff, students, alumni and friends.
Just consider our many successes. Enrollment across the U of I System grew to record highs. The nation turned to our researchers to solve its most vexing problems, from healthcare to cybersecurity. Our global standing continued to attract world-class students, faculty and staff. Robert Jones joined us as chancellor in Urbana-Champaign, and Barbara Wilson brought her experience from the chancellor’s office into the role of executive vice president.
We also collaborated on important new initiatives to ensure our tomorrow is even brighter – proposing a groundbreaking new partnership with the state that would provide performance-based funding and adopting a new Strategic Framework that sets ambitious goals for our future. As the Framework says, “Little plans have never been the Illinois way,” and I have seen first-hand that we have the vision, the will and the talent to achieve them.
Our deepest thanks to all of you for your dedication and loyalty. Whether your home is here in Illinois or far away, our thoughts are with you.
