Make sure to lock your devices when they’re not in use. This simple step helps keep your messages, photos, data, and accounts private.
What to Do:
- Set up password protection on all your devices, like laptops, phones, or tablets. That way, no one can access the data on them without knowing the password or passcode.
- Lock all your devices when you’re not using them. You should lock your computer anytime you step away, even for a minute or two.
- Safeguard your devices by physically securing them, too. For example, lock your phone in an office desk drawer.
Here’s a trick for Windows users to quickly lock a computer: Find the Windows key on your keyboard. (It should be near the space bar, and it looks like the Windows logo.) Press that key plus the L key (for Lock) at the same time to lock your computer.
