Start Off the Semester Strong

Take advantage of all the resources you have available! CARE hosts tutoring hours and workshops, and don't forget to check out other support systems like OMSA! Remember, the early bird gets the worm!

This year the Engineering for Social Justice Scholars Program hosted a STEMposium to promote insight and inspiration through a performance event.

A few MEP students participated in short acts such as songs, skits, storytelling, and spoken word poetry about themes related to the intersections of STEM and issues of identity, power, engagement, education, social justice, and ethics.

Student Spotlight

Karla Rivero Valles is a junior in Mechanical Engineering pursuing a Hoeft Technology and Management minor.

She is very active on campus and has been a part of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) in the High School Outreach and Corporate Relations committees and was in charge of SHPE's Regional Conference in April.

This year, she serves as chapter president of SHPE and was an ENG 100 Engineering Learning Assistant. Karla plans on becoming more involved with the Society of Women Engineers and Women in MechSE this year.

If you happen to see her around, say hi! She likes meeting new people!

Alumni Spotlight

Keith Searles (BSCEE, 1996) is founder and CEO of Urban GIS. Because of this, he was asked to be the Key Note Speaker at Illinois GIS Day 2016! Keith spoke to a packed house about his passion for his work at Urban GIS. He even dropped by the SHPE/NSBE office to hang out with MEP students!

Annual Awards Banquet

Mark your calendars! The annual MEP Awards Banquet will take place on Friday, April 14, 2017 from 7:00 PM - 12:00 AM at the I-Hotel and Conference Center. Join us for a special night of great food with current and past MEP members.

This year's banquet is a special tribute to the late Dean Paul E. Parker and his countless contributions to the Morrill Engineering Program. Share your memories of Dean Parker on the Paul Parker Legacy Facebook Group. For Alumni interested in helping plan this event, please see the Tribute Planning Committee Facebook Group!
