Hello Graduate Student,

It is safe to say that this school year has been quite unusual. As the semester winds down, take a second to think about all that you have accomplished. You have been confronted with unprecendented challenges and you have perservered! Looking ahead, you may find that planning for the end of the semester as well as fall and winter break will be different this year. It is easy to feel overwhelmed and forget to take care of yourself, but self-care should be a priority! You can't do the incredible things that you are doing if you don't take care of yourself. Below are some resources that will help you identify ways to stress less and practice self-care.

Campus Spotlight

McKinley Health Center: McKinley offers services and programs beyond medical appointments and convenient care. The Health Education unit has resources to help with stress relief, nutrition, and fitness. You might also check out the McKinley Wellness App to find additional wellness resources.

The Counseling Center: Learn more about individual counseling and group counseling. The Counseling Center also offers a variety of workshops on skills for managing academic and personal stressors, including the Tuesday @ 7 series. They also host daily, drop-in mindfulness sessions through Zoom. You can read about one graduate student's experience in our blog, Feel Like You're Drowning? The Counseling Center Can Help.

Campus Recreation: Participate in fitness classes, take a cooking class, download a weekly workout plan, and learn more about the programs available through Campus Rec. Many of these opportunities are available virtually!

Additional Support: You might connect with Cultural and Resource Centers or International Student & Scholar Services for additional resources and support. Graduate College staff offer one-on-one coaching to support graduate students. You can find ways to connect with us on our website. And our Need Help page will link you with other campus units who can support you.

Next Steps

Think about some self-care activities you can add to your routine. These could include taking a walk, participating in a Zumba class, crafting, reading, starting a new series on Netflix or Hulu, or trying a new recipe. You can get some ideas for activities on our Balancing School and Life page.

Registration will open in early December for the Spring 2021 term. Check out the Registrar’s website for information on registration procedures. You can learn more about the classes being offered in Course Explorer and you can register through your Self-Service account.

Review the COVID-19 testing locations and hours for fall and winter break online or on your Safer Illinois app.
