 Happy February!

The hustle and bustle of a new semester is in the air and you can feel the energy everywhere. There are lots of things going on with the Secretariat, make sure you read what all of our wonderful committees are doing below!

The Membership Committee recently announced the membership prices for the rest of the year have been reduced.  Is there anyone who know that is interested in joining Secretariat, but has not yet done so?  Share this newsletter with them and point out that membership fees for new members have been reduced to $7.50. The year may be half over, but we still have a lot to offer. Share and encourage your colleagues to join us!

The Nominations and Elections Committee are geared up to take nominations for next year’s officers. Please consider making a nomination of someone who you feel would benefit the Secretariat in our mission and/or nominate yourself. This is a great way to be more involved and continue to learn and grow in your position.

The Programs and Reservations Committee has a great program planned for this month. Come out and meet some of our athletes that participated in the Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro this past fall.

We are still seeking persons interested in joining various committees. I encourage you to contact me or any committee member to learn more about any of the committees that interest you! It’s a great way to meet new people and interact on a more intimate level. Most committees only meet a few times a year, so the time commitment is not overwhelming but it’s a great opportunity if you’re looking to add to your portfolio!

For just $7.50, you can join or renew your membership through the end of the fiscal year. We offer so many great opportunities to improve your leadership skills, advance your career, and connect with other office professionals across campus. Remind your friends and colleagues to join and please invite any NEW STAFF in your office to be a guest at an upcoming luncheon so they can see for themselves what we have to offer.

Thank you to everyone who attended the Krannert Art Museum tour during last month’s luncheon.  It was an enjoyable and informative tour that gave us a peek at the treasures being displayed in the museum.  Be sure to view the photos that are included in this newsletter. 

After 5:00 p.m. PlansWe had such a fabulous time enjoying an evening of good conversation and food at Baxter’s last month that we plan to be there again this month.  Secretariat members and guests will meet on Wednesday, February 22 at Baxter’s American Grill, 100 Trade Center Drive in Champaign (near McDonald’s on South Neil).  Appetizers are half-price on Wednesdays and there is usually live music during their weekly happy hours.  If you plan to join us, kindly send a note to so we can reserve enough space for the entire group. Ask the host/hostess for the Secretariat group.

The Nomination/Elections Committee has announced a formal request for nominations of Officers beginning in January and running through March 24th, 2017 for the 2017-2018 election year. So please put together a list of whom you would like to see serve in leadership roles for The Secretariat. Please consider nominating yourself as well! Over the next couple of months, I will introduce one of the three positions for which you could nominate YOURSELF or another person of trust. In January we started with the Treasurer position. In February, we will outline the Recording Secretary:

The Recording Secretary:

  • Will keep a correct recording of the proceedings of all meetings of this Association and of the Executive Board.
  • Will also preserve, in a permanent file, all records and letters (of value) to this Association and its officers.
  • At the end of the elected term, this file, including the minutes book, will be transferred to the successor and the prior year’s records will be turned over to the President to be archived.

Please remember you are not alone when taking on your role as an officer. The Secretariat has a strong member base and you will be, at most, an email away from help with any challenges that arise.
