New name – new website: UI Wellness Center is now Campus Wellbeing Services

The UI Wellness Center has a new name. We are now Campus Wellbeing Services. We also have a new website which is housed within the Illinois Human Resources site.

We are still thoroughly dedicated to providing high quality health enhancing programs and services to campus employees, and to supporting student wellness. Our services remain the same. The resources on our site also remain the same – the look and organization are a bit different.

Bike to Work on Tuesday, May 2

May is Bike Month in the C-U community and our campus is no exception. Tuesday, May 2 is Bike to Campus Day at the University of Illinois. Bike to Campus Day is a great way to try biking to campus and learn more about it. If you already bike to campus, it’s a good opportunity to celebrate and meet fellow bicyclists. To learn more about this fun event, and tips on how to bike to work, read on.

Campus Farm Stand opens Thursday, May 4

The Sustainable Student Farm will kick off the 2017 season with a mini farm stand on Thursday May 4. The stand will feature a simple spring offering of asparagus, mushrooms, greens and more. The mini farm stand will operate on the main quad Thursdays from 11 am – 1 pm on May 4, 11 and 18. The full-length market will start at the end of May.

Schedule a Wellness-to-Go program for your staff this summer

Summer is a great time to focus on staff development. The UI Wellness Center provides a wide array of wellness programs that we deliver at your convenience at your location. Our programs help employees grow personally and professionally. Topics include stress management, time management, work life balance, getting physically active, how to get a good night’s sleep, how to stay energized during the work day, and much more.

Campus Weight Watchers continues through summer

The campus’ Weight Watchers meeting will continue through most of the summer. This class meets as follows:

  • Thursdays, 12:15 pm – 12:45 pm (confidential weigh in starts at 12 noon)
  • Bevier Commons

The program is in the middle of a series, but you can join at any time. If you are new, simply come to Bevier Commons and the receptionist will take care of all the paperwork you need. You will need to pay at the first meeting you attend.

The current series runs until August 3. A new series will start in the fall.

Get out of your office and take a walk!

Summer is a great time to get outside and enjoy nature. Our campus is highly walkable and has some excellent green spaces. Examples include the Arboretum and the Illini Grove. Use some of your lunch time and discover the beauty of our campus. Or walk to a meeting – it’s often faster than driving and parking! For ideas of where to walk, go to our I Walk toolkit. The toolkit features the best walks on campus – complete with photos, maps and helpful information. In addition, you can learn how to start a walking program, how to dress for walking in the heat, how to use a pedometer, how to stretch after your walk, and much more.

Get fit with New Campus Recreation classes

Looking for a fun way to rev up your fitness routine? Campus Recreation (Rec) now offers two new group fitness classes: Body Jam and Extrim Bollywood. Both classes combine dance and exercise to maximize the fun while you improve your strength, endurance and flexibility. Read on to learn more about Campus Rec group fitness classes.

No time to exercise? Do it on the weekend! New research says it’s okay

In the past, experts warned about being a Weekend (exercise) Warrior. The concern was that high energy exercise only one or two days a week with many inactive days in between could increase the risk for heart attacks and injuries. New research counters this however. A study published earlier this year shows that intense weekend exercise bouts may lower the risk of premature death from cancer, heart disease or any cause.
