A new feature, the Verified Absences indicator, has been added to Banner Self-Service to allow you to more efficiently confirm student verified absences.
All students with verified absences recorded during the semester will have a Y in the new Verified Absences column. This can be found on any of the three Class Roster Data pages within the Faculty Services menu found in Banner Self Service. In order to see the list of dates for which the student has verified absences, simply click the Y to open the Verified Absences page.
Pursuant to the Student Code, the ultimate decision as to whether an absence is excused rests with the instructor. This indicator will allow the Student Assistance Center (SAC) in the Office of the Dean of Students to more easily share absence information with instructors. The absences covered by this indicator include but are not limited to those that are COVID-related. It is important to note the indicator does not cover all student absences, as many – particularly short-term absences – do not come to SAC, and that a student absence identified through this indicator does not necessarily mean the student is COVID-positive.
The Verified Absences column might not be populated for students where a verified absence has not yet been recorded to the system, or the dates fall outside the beginning or end of the semester. For any students who have missed classes or assignments and do not have a Verified Absences indicator, and you require verification, please refer the student to the Student Assistance Center process regarding Absence Letters.
