Professor Sheldon H. Jacobson has been honored with the David F. Baker Distinguished Research Award, recognizing his lifetime achievements. His work analyzing complex systems is well known for informing public policy, especially in the areas of aviation security and pediatric immunization engineering economics. With the technology world enbroiled in recent controversies about gender, what's it really like to be a female undergraduate studing computer science?  We talked to thirteen alumnae and current students for their perspectives.

Shannon Chen 

Chien-Nan (Shannon) Chen (PhD CS ’16) will be recognized at ACM Multimedia 2017 with the SIGMM Outstanding PhD Thesis Award for his research advancing 3D tele-immersive technology.

Professor Derek Hoiem is the CTO of Reconstruct, a Research Park startup using visual data to track progress on construction sites. They are helping to map Chicago’s subterranean infrastructure. (The News-Gazette recently interviewed Hoiem.)
