Personalized Nutrition Seminar – Spring 2021

The Division of Nutritional Sciences has invited the PNI to organize the “Frontiers in Nutritional Sciences Seminar Series” on the topic of Personalized Nutrition –Challenges and Opportunities during the Spring Semester. Please hold 4-5 PM on Wednesdays (except for 2 seminars that will be held on a Monday: 2/15 and 3/22) during Spring Semester 2021. This will be a great opportunity to bring external experts to campus as well as highlight the exciting work being conducted by our faculty and students across campus. All seminars will be online via Zoom.

Here are two examples of seminar speakers this spring:

Last chance: PNI Campus Survey closing 12/15

The Personalized Nutrition Initiative has compiled a brief survey to better understand the needs of our community, and what members would like to achieve with this initiative. Over 75 faculty members across 11 colleges, institutes, and programs have already participated, but we are seeking input on cross-campus research capacity and faculty interest in participating in future activities. Now is the time to help shape our priorities over the next few years. It takes an average of 15 minutes to complete the survey complete the survey.

NIH Precision Nutrition: Research Gaps and Opportunities Workshop

January 11-12, 2021

Precision nutrition is a holistic approach to developing comprehensive and dynamic nutrition recommendations relevant to both individual and population health. This workshop will bring together scientists with diverse expertise to explore how best to address these complex factors. It also will focus on diet-related chronic diseases and how artificial intelligence (AI) and deep-learning techniques may be used to generate individualized dietary recommendations and algorithms. Opportunities for research and training of the next generation of future researchers in the field of precision nutrition will be discussed. Register

The All of Us Research Hub matches a unique research community with a diverse participant community to advance precision medicine. The Research Hub provides an interactive Data Browser, where anyone can learn about the type and quantity of data collected by the program. Users can dive into aggregate data, including survey responses, physical measurements, and electronic health record information.

Registered researchers can use the Researcher Workbench to access deeper data and a variety of research tools through the workbench. The diverse dataset may help facilitate new research studies and may lead to new insights, treatments, and strategies for disease prevention that are unique to individuals.

External Funding Opportunities

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation - Health Data for Action
Application Deadline: December 17, 2020
Purpose: Health Data for Action (HD4A) aims to reduce the barriers often faced in accessing rich data by serving as a conduit between data owners and interested researchers. Through this HD4A call for proposals (CFP), RWJF will make valuable data from unique data owners available to researchers. The purpose of the 2020 HD4A CFP is primarily to award data access at no cost from one of eight anticipated data providers to successful applicants. Most selected projects will not receive a financial award for personnel or other project-related costs. However, limited funding up to $100,000 per project is available for a small number of projects from principal investigators who have not previously received external research funding.
