Even during these trying days, time for play is important. Play is the work of young children. It gives them the opportunity to explore new ideas, ponder solutions, and experiment with roles and responsibilities. Illinois Early Learning has a new Play tool kit that includes resources about the benefits of play, different types of play, and playing in different settings such as home or childcare. We also have added a new blog in our Learning and Growing Together collection. Check out Play Along: Following Your Child’s Interests at Home for ideas about observing and expanding on your child’s play.

Early Intervention: What Should I Know?

You may be aware that early intervention (EI) is a collection of services designed to support children birth to age 3 who have or are at risk for developing a disability and their families. However, you may still have some questions about how EI works. How do you know whether a child should be referred? What is the process of becoming eligible and starting services? What does early intervention look like in a home or center-based setting? IEL has a new tool kit, Early Intervention: Resources for Families, Childcare, and Early Childhood Teachers, to help you answer some of these important questions and more. Check it out today!
