| | FROM THE PRESIDENT
Sleigh bells ring, are you listening? I hope that each of you enjoyed the Thanksgiving holiday. Now, we turn our attention to December celebrations. We all become so busy during this month celebrating with our co-workers, friends, and family members. I know that many of us are also busy volunteering our time or donating to our favorite charities to make sure that other families can enjoy their holidays together. You should have received an email last week from our Philanthropy Committee with information on the family that we are adopting this month. There is no time commitment, but while you’re buying gifts please consider buying for this family. Even the smallest of gifts will ensure that they have an opportunity to enjoy the holiday season. If you missed the email last week you may find additional information below.
We are extending the deadline to complete the survey that was announced in November. Only you can tell us how we can make a bigger difference for you. Please take just a couple of minutes to complete the survey:

PHILANTHROPY
It is that time of year...Christmas decorations go up, stockings are hung and children write to Santa for their wish list.
This year we adopted a family of six, a single Mom with five children ranging in age from 19 to 10 years old. When she submitted her request to the Faculty/Staff Assistance Services she noted that if chosen, "this would be a blessing". We know as a group, we can help give the family a special Christmas. Please find details attached.
Deadline is Thursday, December 14 to allow us time to shop before we drop off gifts on Tuesday, December 19.
Thank you for helping to provide wishes to the children and ease of mind to the Mom.
Have a wonderful Christmas.

Social Event
Along with coordinating the monthly Career Connections meetings, the Program and Events Committee also schedules events where Secretariat members can interact with one another in an informal setting. Members and their guests – guests are always welcome! – are encouraged to relax and take a moment to get better acquainted with fellow Secretariat members.
After 5:00 Plans – Join your Secretariat colleagues for a festive evening at Sunsinger on Thursday, December 14. Sunsinger is located at 1115 Windsor Road in Champaign in the Windsor Galleria Plaza. If you plan to join us, kindly send a note to TheSecretariat@illinois.edu so we can reserve enough space for the entire group. Ask the host/hostess for the Secretariat group.

NOMINATIONS & ELECTION
Susan Conrad made an excellent point during her remarks upon acceptance of the Bess G. Matteson Award on November 15. She reminded the group to not forget about The Secretariat, and called it “A Hidden Gem” on campus. Susie also said that once she chaired the Nominations and Elections Committee she was “never the same!” She is absolutely correct, that serving as a Committee Chair, and later as an Elected Officer, as she did, ultimately serving as President, can change you – for the better! You will gain confidence and a larger network.
Give serious consideration to running for one of our elected offices during the upcoming semester – The Secretariat needs you, and you will benefit from serving!
Respectfully submitted,
Lezli Cline, Co-Chair Stacy Duzinski, Co-Chair Crystal Hahnstadt, member |
