Institute for Artificial Intelligence in Construction planned

A University of Illinois team has received grants and support to plan the establishment of the National Institute for Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Construction. NSF-funded study will examine critical interfaces for materials transport

A team led by professor Praveen Kumar has received a grant of more than $6 million from the NSF to study “critical interfaces” in the environment that affect the transport and transformation of materials such as water, sediment, carbon and nutrients. Team studies use of algae to purify wastewater, make fuel

A research team led by CEE associate professor Jeremy Guest has been awarded a grant of $2 million by the U.S. Department of Energy to study the use of algae to purify wastewater while simultaneously producing biomass for fuel production. Electric cooker an easy, efficient way to sanitize N95 masks, study finds

Owners of electric multicookers may be able to add another use to its list of functions, a new study suggests: sanitization of N95 respirator masks. The study found that 50 minutes of dry heat in an electric cooker, such as a rice cooker or Instant Pot, decontaminated N95 respirators inside and out while maintaining their filtration and fit. Using waste incineration ashes for sustainable infrastructure

The United States produces approximately 250 million tons of waste each year, which is either landfilled, recycled or incinerated to create energy (waste-to-energy, or WTE).
