Engineers, doctors team up to study pooled COVID-19 testing

A new method of COVID-19 testing that pools samples from multiple people to speed up population screening when test kits are scarce is being investigated by a team led by assistant professor Hadi Meidani. The team hopes to develop the most effective and inexpensive way to employ pooled testing to inform responses for public safety. READ MORE

 
 
 
 
Project to improve retention of URM students

A project led by CEE doctoral candidate Jamie Clark aims to improve retention of underrepresented minority (URM) students in The Grainger College of Engineering. The project, Three-pronged Approach for Retention of Underrepresented Minority Students, will leverage existing relationships between URM student organizations, faculty and administration to expand support systems and foster institutional change. Bill Hall has died

Professor Emeritus William J. Hall, 94, died on June 9, 2020, in Urbana, Ill. As an Illinois faculty member, Hall’s teaching and research centered on structural engineering and specifically structural dynamics as it relates to structural behavior under various types of loadings. Hall was highly respected in the field of earthquake engineering, both in academia and in his professional practice. READ MORE
