Illinois Geography & GIS Gathering at AAG
Geography & GIS and the GGSA are hosting a gathering for current GGIS faculty, students, and all Illinois alumni attending AAG in New Orleans. Backspace Bar is just across the street from the conference venue (New Orleans Marriott and Sheraton hotels), and the department will generously provide food appetizers (roasted veggies, chicken spears, and housemade chips) and drinks.
AAG Presenters: The Geography Graduate Student Association has created a Google Sheet where all Geography & GIS faculty and graduate students who are presenting at AAG can share the title, time, and location of their presentation.
PhD student Aida Guhlincozzi (advisor: Sara McLafferty) has been awarded a National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellowship! Her project focuses on identifying spatial mismatch in healthcare accessibility for Latinx people to ethnically matching physicians in Chicago suburbs, by examining Latinx healthcare needs regarding ethnicity and language and space-time constraints.
Master's student Ryan Keeling (advisor: Piotr Cienciala) has been selected as a finalist for the 2018 Image of Research competition. His entry will be printed as a poster and displayed at the reception today (4/6), from 4:00-6:00 pm in Room 220 Main Library. The People’s Choice Award is voted on during the reception - all students and faculty are encouraged to attend and vote for their favorite image.
