Dear UIC College of Nursing Alumni,
As alumni we feel pride in serving on the UIC College of Nursing Alumni Board. Jan decided to join the board after retiring from UI Health, because it was important to her to stay connected to the college. The opportunity to join the board provided the perfect way for Jan to accomplish this. For Yolanda, joining the board provided the opportunity to network and share her skills and abilities with likeminded individuals while giving back to her college in a gratifying way. Collectively, we have served on the Alumni Board for 10 years, which demonstrates just how passionate we are working in this capacity to help the college advance its mission.
The UIC College of Nursing’s mission is to transform health, healthcare and policy through knowledge generation and translation and the education of future nurse leaders from diverse backgrounds. Consistently ranked as one of the top nursing schools in the country, the college’s success is due in large part to the achievement and efforts of our alumni. The Nursing Alumni Board encourages all alumni to stay connected by supporting the mission and vision of the college and is open to all UIC Nursing graduates.
We are writing you today with this special request. The Nursing Alumni Board is currently seeking new members to expand board membership. We are seeking a diverse group of alumni who are representative of our alumni community. Alumni from various backgrounds – new graduates, seasoned alumni, alumni from all our campuses, and varied degrees, specialties, and demographics - are encouraged to apply for membership. To see the current list of board members, visit the board website.
The Nursing Alumni Board focuses on alumni engagement, recognition and philanthropy, and serves as an advocate for the college as well as a mouthpiece for the overall alumni community. Board members are required to attend three board meetings per year in addition to an annual retreat, and serve on one of three committees:
- Nominating and Recruitment Committee - recruits alumni to participate in the Alumni Board and helps with officer elections
- Awards Committee - assists with the alumni and student award process for three annual alumni awards and two graduating student awards. This committee helps drive alumni award nominations
- Advocacy and Engagement Committee - serves as an advocate for the college, alumni board, and overall alumni community. Helps the college engage alumni, and assists with the Alumni Mentor Program
Additionally, we ask that board members attend college programs, special events and reunions when possible and make an annual contribution to a college fund of their choice.
Are you willing and able to answer the call to join the board? If you are interested in becoming an active member of the Nursing Alumni Board, email Sara Almassian, the college's associate director of alumni engagement; or you can email Yolanda or email Jan. For additional information, visit the board website.
Thank you for your consideration. We look forward to talking with you more about this opportunity.
