Please help us to distribute the information below to relevant and interested students in your unit. Please also share this with graduate students, faculty, and post-docs that are currently mentoring undergraduate student researchers.

The Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR) is seeking several motivated and personable undergraduates in the humanities or arts who are excited to introduce peers to the Illinois research and creative inquiry experience. If you have participated in a research or creative project, be it through coursework, assisting faculty, research staff, or graduate students, or conducting a research or creative project of your own, you can become an Illinois Undergraduate Research Ambassador and help other students along their research journeys.

How do you know if you have research experience? You probably have experience if you pursued one or more of the following to answer questions that you’ve found interesting:

Arts:

  • Participated in an on-campus or off-campus program, course, or festival
  • Experience presenting work in creative showcase (e.g., musical and theater productions, visual arts exhibitions)
  • Under the supervision of a graduate student, faculty, or research staff member:
    • Conducted analysis of different artistic techniques/traditions
    • Conducted interviews or surveys
    • Participated in conferences/conversations with others
    • Created new interpretations based on analysis of a piece
    • Collaborated to create something based on the distinct experience of those involved
    • Developed creative work on the material collected or processes learned in the previous steps

Humanities:

  • Participated in a research-based course (e.g., research methods)
  • Are interested in or are currently pursuing a senior thesis, capstone project, or independent study
  • Participated in a research program (e.g., IPRH Bio-Humanities, Ethnography of the University Initiative)
  • Under the supervision of a graduate student, faculty, or research staff member:
    • Conducted literature reviews
    • Conducted textual analysis of different literature
    • Analyzed primary sources
    • Conducted interviews, surveys, focus groups
    • Wrote or produced a story based on some of the previous steps

  4. Serve as a student advisory board and provide critical feedback about OUR programs and initiatives.
