Welcome, Luke Mesenbring!


Please give a big AITS welcome to Luke Mesenbring who has recently joined our unit as a Quality Assurance Engineer! Luke is married to Andrea Pellegrini who some of you may know from the University Bursar. They have an adorable rescue greyhound named Unity, who they love taking on road trips around the country (pre-COVID) and exploring parks in the central Illinois area. Prior to AITS, Luke worked for Patterson Companies as a Quality Assurance Analyst and Support Specialist and was a manager for Sam’s Club before that. In his free time, he can often be found playing Minecraft with his wife, spoiling their dog, or getting lost in a rabbit hole of random Wikipedia pages. He's excited to be part of the AITS team!

Cybersecurity Training


Anyone who has not already completed the February 2021 System Office Cybersecurity Training module will receive a follow up email to complete the assignment by March 22, 2021.
Additional training modules are available to help you learn more security essentials. Completing one or more puts you ahead of the attackers when it comes to identifying and avoiding cyber threats. We encourage you to try one of these modules.

Preventing Harassment and Discrimination Training 2021


The deadline for the 2021 Preventing Harassment and Discrimination Training for all employees must be completed by 6:00 PM CT on April 2, 2021.
All faculty and staff are required to complete the EVERFI Preventing Harassment and Discrimination training module. This online course, hosted by EVERFI, addresses sexual misconduct prevention and harassment in the workplace. Completion of this course is mandatory for all faculty and staff and satisfies the requirements outlined in state and federal law.

Accessing the Course:

  1. Select the orange Log In button above or open a web browser and go to: https://go.uillinois.edu/sexual_misconduct_training
  2. Select your university location, if prompted
  3. Enter your university net id and password
  4. Click the “Login” button
  5. Select the green “Start” button on the Preventing Harassment and Discrimination: Non-Supervisor with Title IX/Clery icon to begin your coursework

I am writing this email as a special thank you to Sonya Shipley in the Administrative Information Technology Services (AITS) Department. It was discovered this past Fall that two UIC Employees’ records (one from Urbana and one from Chicago) were merged in error. The two employees had the same first name and last name (no middle name), same date of birth, and the same first five digits of their SSN.  Sonya and her colleagues worked tirelessly and effortlessly to “untangle” their records so that both employees could proceed with their respective employment records.

I also want to show appreciation to the various Departments and staff that Sonya worked with to provide a quick resolution for these employees. Some of these employees that she partnered with were Stacey Neil, Erin Arie, Teresa Woodley, Pat Schlehuber, Jannah Coon, Becki Wright, Kelly Elkins and Janet Shaw. Also, some of the Departments that she collaborated with were ACCC, Technology Services, and the I-Card help desk. I feel that it is very important to recognize the fantastic job that Sonya and her colleagues completed with this project. She and her colleagues’ cross functional and cross campus collaborative efforts are a perfect example of high- level problem solving and teamwork that deserves recognition.

Erin Arie noticed I was getting buried with a landslide of incoming work on Monday, Feb 8th, and kindly offered me her help without being asked - a help which I gratefully accepted - with a significant chunk of that incoming workload.  Erin exemplifies excellent teamwork and I cannot overstate how much it means to me to have a teammate like her.  Our 3-person team is currently a 2-person team given that we currently have one out on extended medical leave.  I appreciate her awareness of that challenge so much!  She remains aware of it even though she constantly has work to do for several other teams.  She was watching our work queue even thought it was not her responsibility - and provided sorely needed back-up!.
