The Webtools Skin Designer now supports two new 'Illinois Wizard' types when creating skins.  One for creating a campus branded ‘email’ skin, and a second for creating a campus branded ‘application’ skin.   These skins implement email and web design standards from the Office of Strategic Marketing and Branding.

The new campus email skin can only be used by Email+ .  The application (web) skin can be used by Webtools: Calendars, Blogs, Forms, Surveys, Directory, and Maps.

How to use the new skins:

To create the new skins click the ‘Create’ button in the Skin Designer and choose the appropriate Illinois Wizard skin.  On the Skin tab the only options are:

  1. ‘Primary’ and 'secondary’ labels, positioned in the header next to the logo
  2. Social media
  3. Footer content

When adding the 'footer content' a button has been added to insert an example footer.  Please edit the footer example appropriately while following the pattern of the example.  After completing the steps above the skin is ready to use.

Examples of new campus skins headers:

  1. Application skin with 'primary’ label
  2. Application skin with 'primary’ and 'secondary' label
  3. Email skin with 'primary' label
  4. Email skin with 'primary’ and 'secondary' label

Primary versus secondary labels

When only one label will be displayed in the header, for example the 'The Grainger College of Engineering', then only the 'primary' label will be used.

When two labels will be displayed, for example 'Materials Science & Engineering' and its parent 'The Grainger College of Engineering', then the college would be the 'secondary' label (the smaller label).

Assigning access

College, unit, or department access to skins can be granted on the Access tab.  This is only access to use the skin, not to edit in any way.

Skin Designer training

The new campus skins are so easy to use that training is probably not necessary, however Web Services will offer the following workshops on a few different topics if anyone would like a refresher.  The workshop will cover creating the new campus skins, setting unit/department access, and cleaning up old skins.
