Funding & Grants
Mar 31: The UIC Dept of Black Studies Grace Holt Memorial Award honors undergraduate and graduate students who have worked actively to improve the lives of black people. Eligible students must have a demonstrated commitment to the field of Black Studies issues of racial justice and a minimum grade point average of 3.0. The winner of this competition will receive a $1000.00 award.
Mar 31: 2021 Silvers Grants for Works in Progress. For “authors working on long-form essays or full-length book projects in the fields of criticism, political analysis, or social reportage that require up to $10,000 in financial support for travel and/or research may apply….” Applicants should have a contract or formal agreement for work under consideration. Applications should include a CV, one-page project description, statement of costs, and a writing sample.
Apr 6: Institute for the Humanities Resident Graduate Scholar Program. Resident Graduate Scholars will be provided office space and administrative support in the Institute for the Humanities. As Resident Scholars they will be invited to participate fully in the fellows’ lunch seminars and social events.
Apr 9: Departmental awards for excellence for graduate students applications due! We may be able to award runners-up as well this time around, so do put in an application. Prizes for:
- Best PhD diss chapter (Selby)
- Best essay, MA Project, or Prospectus (Kogan)
- Teaching Excellence (Distinguished Teaching Award)
- Best British Studies essay of 25 pages or fewer (Fromm)
