Students having fun at Italian Conversation Hour

Dear Faculty, Lecturers and TAs,

It's the fourth week, and events in 308 GH are in full swing!  Encourage your students and colleagues to attend our many language conversation and film hours.  Consult our Events Calendar here: https://lclc.uic.edu/

We're looking forward to connecting with some prospective future Flames this coming weekend at the UIC Open House this Saturday, September 27.https://openhouse.uic.edu/.  We expect 8,000 to 10,000 prospective students and guests--that's a lot of students excited about the 14 languages we teach in LSCL!

Do you have a project in mind but aren’t sure how to make it work? Is there a technology that you’d like to learn more about or possibly use in your course? The LCLC is here to help! We have tech tools for every kind of project - in any kind of class from beginning language to advanced graduate - and can help you find the best way to integrate them effectively and meaningfully into your teaching. Email us at lclc@uic.edu with all your questions!

Weekly Workshop: Working with VoiceThread! VoiceThread is a great tool for having students practice pronounciation, record video self-presentationsrespond orally to visual or audio prompts, or to move in-class content online and save class time! It's also a great way to have students interact outside of class or for you to easily give detailed audio or video feedback to individual students. VoiceThread is a flexible tool that works on any computer and even mobile devices and can be adapted to meet many other needs! In this workshop, we'll be presenting a general overview of VoiceThread and troubleshooting any issues you may have. Feel free to bring questions!

Can't make the scheduled workshop times below? Email us to set up a meeting at the LCLC or in your office: lclc@uic.edu

A teaching with technology tip of the week:

Recording Skype calls: Upper-level conversation partners

Have you ever wanted to record your virtual meetings? Well, now Skype allows you to do just that!

Skype has introduced call recording to allow meetings to be recorded. As soon as you start recording, everyone on the call is notified to ensure that there are no surprises. If you are on a video call, Skype records everyone's video and any screens shared during the all. You can share the recorded call for 30 days. It is completely cloud-based and is availabe on the latest version of Skype and on most platforms. Call recording is coming to Windows 10 in the coming weeks alongside the lastest version of Skype.

Click here to read more about how Skype call recording works.

UIC LCLC social media! Encourage your students and colleagues to check out the UIC Language and Culture Learning Center Facebook page and Instagram and Twitter feeds. Stay up-to-date with LCLC happenings. Promoting our pages is a good way to ensure your students know about your conversation hour or film series.
