New Graphic Tip Sheet: Get Ready to Read
Our new graphic tip sheet, Get Ready to Read, gives parents ideas on how to set their young child up for reading and writing by building knowledge, skills, and habits that create a strong foundation for future literacy. Share this tip sheet with families on home visits, in playgroups, at children’s libraries, at resource fairs, and at screening appointments. (Also available in Spanish, Polish, Arabic, and French. Check back soon for versions in Korean and Simplified Chinese.)
New Early Learning Moment Looks at Physical Development and Health
Our latest Early Learning Moment provides an overview of the Physical Development and Health domain of the Illinois Early Learning Guidelines for Children Ages Birth to Three Years (IELGs). It shows how very young children interact with their environment using their growing physical abilities and how adults caring for them are keeping them safe and healthy. The Illinois Early Learning Moments provide video examples aligned to the IELGS. They are free to use during home visits, family engagement events, staff trainings, and in course work.
Two New Benchmark Videos Illustrate Bilingual Education
Our two new benchmark videos, Retelling Caps for Sale and Talking About Numbers and Letters, were filmed in a bilingual PreK classroom. Each video has captions as well as a full transcript between the teacher and students available in both English and Spanish. Each benchmark video illustrates how the interactions between the teacher and children address many benchmarks in the the Illinois Early Learning and Development Standards (IELDS).
