November 2018 Newsletter Issue
Message from the President
Hello everyone! I hope you are enjoying the crisp fall weather and the beautiful leaves scattered across the quad. This is one of my favorite times of the year (the extra hour of sleep this Sunday will be particularly enjoyed after a hectic first half of the fall semester) with plenty of snacks and candy to munch on as the days grow short. Speaking of food, I hope you’ll find some time to join us during the Career Connections luncheon next month where we will have Clair Bryan and Beth Hoag speaking on leadership development. This will be a great time to hear from the experts and get some tips about mentoring other folks in your office or around campus. I’m very excited for this opportunity and hope you are too!
We’re also making great headway for our Philanthropy Committee and raising funds for our group’s general fund. A few of us worked at the concert last weekend and raised money to support our holiday giving and community efforts. If you would be interested in joining us at a future fundraiser, please email me, at firstname.lastname@example.org or anyone on the Philanthropy Committee and we can get you more information. In addition, we will be donating items for “Thanksgiving Baskets” so please don’t forget to bring donations to the next meeting (details below).
See you on November 14 at SDRP!

70th Anniversary Celebration Planning Committee
Debbie McCall & Leta Summers, Co-Chairs
The 70th Anniversary Celebration will take place on Wednesday, December 12 in the Illini Union. This will be a special event to celebrate the organization’s 70 years of bringing members in similar working classifications together for networking, learning from one another and helping each other advance in their careers.
We are excited to announce the event will include a keynote speaker. Dr. Lynn Hassan Jones, wife of Chancellor Robert Jones who has recently completed a remarkable career as a diagnostic radiologist physician will join us for this special occasion.
The committee continues to seek donations for the silent auction/raffle that will be held during the luncheon. Do you or your office have an item to donate? Contact a member of the committee at your earliest convenience so it can be added to the list.
The silent auction for the items collected will be conducted as a raffle. Numbered tickets will be available to purchase as you arrive at the luncheon. Purchase your tickets and then put as many as you wish in the buckets representing the items available. At the end of the program, we will pull the raffle tickets from the buckets and announce the winner for each item.
Items (click to see) already in Silent Auction:
- Merino wool hand woven scarf
- Silpada jewelry: bracelets, earrings, and necklaces
- Ivy & Fig handbag
- Wooden Block I coaster sets
To support this special event, we are selling lunch coolers and clear bags, which meet the required specifications for UI sporting events. Photos of these items are included here. Order forms may be forwarded to Andrea Fain, Deb McCall or Leta Summers.

Thank you on the behalf of the Philanthropy committee to those who donated to the Oral Hygiene campaign we did for October. We received 100 toothbrushes and over 200 tubes of toothpaste that we donated to C-U@Home. We also receive junior size toothbrushes which we were able to give to the entire Kindergarten class at Bottenfield Elementary for the same campaign.
