Finding Balance and Managing Stress
Hello Graduate Student,
Graduate school is an exciting time of transition, but with that transition can also come stress as you manage new environments and new workloads. It’s important to find ways to maintain your perspective, balance your time, and connect with resources to help you do these. This month’s video on Sustainability and the Productive Life provides a great overview of how to identify practices that can help make your life both sustainable and productive so that you can get the most from your work.
Campus Resource Spotlight

McKinley Health Center has a number of programs to support student wellness. Check out the McKinley Wellness App to connect to wellness resources, including what McKinley offers.

The Counseling Center offers individual counseling and group counseling, including groups for graduate women, older students and international students. The Counseling Center also offers a variety of workshops such as the Tuesday @ 7 workshop series, Perfectionism and Performance/Test Anxiety.

Exploring Campus

Part of being on campus is learning about the variety of spaces and activities that you can use in building and maintaining balance. If you’re not near campus, look for ice skating, arcades or nature opportunities in your home community.

Ice ArenaThe Ice Arena offers a variety of activities, including general skating, instruction, intramural leagues and club activities. Turkey Skate is coming up on November 23rd. The Ice Arena is centrally located on Armory between 4th and 5th Streets.

Illini Union Rec RoomThe Rec Room is located on the basement level of the Illini Union and has bowling, billiards, video and arcade games, and a snack bar.

Arboretum and Japan House – Illinois has a beautiful arboretum with a variety of types of gardens. The Japan House is also located on the Arboretum grounds. The Arboretum is located on Lincoln between Florida and Hazelwood and can be easily accessed using the MTD Raven Bus (21).
