Notes from the Head

One of the pleasures of my role as department head is learning about the successes of our students. Just last week I heard the exciting news that sophomore Divya Rea has been awarded the NOAA Hollings Scholarship. In the previous weeks, juniors Gabbie Christo and Anna Dennis were accepted into the William M. Lapenta NOAA Student Internship Program, and junior Lydia Spychalla (Engineering Physics major, ATMS minor) was accepted into the Oklahoma Summer REU program. And prior to that, Zach Chalmers, Brandon Garcia, and Kaylee Heimes made decisions on the virtual locations of their respective Hollings internships for the summer, and senior Rebekka Delaney finalized her summer research position with UI-SOARS. I know that several of you are still waiting to hear back on summer positions (please keep me posted!), and still others will be pursuing various opportunities and adventures in your respective hometowns and elsewhere. In the meanwhile, please stay safe, keep focused on your studies during the remaining 4.5 weeks of the semester, and enjoy the volatile-weather month of April.

- Department Head Jeff Trapp
