A Virtual Private Network, or VPN, is a private communication channel used to boost privacy and security on a network connection. A VPN connects you more securely to the campus network while working remotely. Some University of Illinois System applications, such as the Travel and Expense Management (TEM) system, require a VPN connection when you’re not on campus.
What to Do:
Download and install a VPN client for your work tasks, if you don’t have one set up already. Check Download and Set Up the VPN Client for download links that match your operating system and step-by-step instructions to set up your VPN client.
You can also visit the VPN Essentials page for more information regarding which University of Illinois resources require a VPN connection. Note that using a VPN can slow down your connection. Many resources, such as email and Kaltura, don’t require a VPN connection.
