Just want to work on conversational skills? Tutors are standing by!

Tutoring is all online and drop-in, so check out our schedules and click the link when you’re ready to chat with a tutor in Spanish, French, German, or Italian!

Susy, French peer tutor

Meet Susy, one of our French tutors!

"I am a Teaching of French major and I am also a native Spanish speaker. I am a first generation college student and a transfer from Loyola hoping to make more diverse connections with my fellow students.  I am a tutor because not only is it a great way to kick start my “teaching” journey, but also because I love connecting with others through a shared language."

 Case Départ film poster

02.09.21- Laurie, French Tutor, with a film recommendation!

"Case Départ is a comedy/fantasy about sibling rivalry and slavery. That doesn’t sound very funny, but it really is! In this 2011 French film, Régis and Joël, two half-brothers, reunite in the Caribbean upon receiving news their father is ailing. When they arrive, their father has already died, and all they inherited is something they think is useless: an act of emancipation passed down through generations. They tear it apart and, upon seeing this, their aunt  casts a spell on them and sends them back to the 18th century, where they are sold as slaves! To get back to the present, they’ll have to earn their keep on plantations… and earn back the act of emancipation."

¡Feliz Martes de Carnaval!

Happy Fat Tuesday, or as they say in Guatemala, ¡Feliz Martes de Carnaval! Guatemalans actually start their Carnaval celebrations on the Thursday before Fat Tuesday and they spend the whole week eating tons of eggs. You may be wondering, why eggs? What’s the meaning behind that? Well, the eggshells are kept and cleaned by families so that they can make cascarones! Cascarones are brightly dyed eggshells that are filled with equally as brightly colored confetti. Guatemalans make tons of these cascarones and break them over the heads of loved ones throughout the week, revealing all the confetti! Follow this link if you're interested in learning how to make your own cascarones.
