Week 8 News from the LCLC
In the image: Russian (top left), Chinese (top right), and Polish (center) Conversation Hours in GH 308

Dear Faculty, Lecturers and TAs,

We’re now halfway through the semester! As we start to feel more settled, now is a great time to think ahead, evaluate, modify… And LCLC is here to help.

  • Updating grade centers
  • Starting a new project for your students
  • Editing Blackboard Tests
  • Any other project or proposal? Let us know.

Email us at lclc@uic.edu with any questions or project proposals (large or small). Visit our Drop-in Helpdesk (Zoom room!) 9-5 Monday through Friday.

This week we are also excited to welcome two new peer tutors! Apprentice tutors Edgar (French) and Ian (German) join the team. Read more about them below and encourage your BLP students to drop into peer tutoring online.

Need a break? Check out one of the conversation hours in person or online! They’re a great opportunity for you to connect with students and other language enthusiasts in the UIC community. Last week, Piazza Italia attendees even made tiramisu! Don’t miss out this week: Polish Chit-Chats, French Conversation, Russian Conversation, Chinese Teatime, English Conversation, and more.

We hope you have a great week!

Best,
Dolly and the LCLC Staff (Juanita, Carly, Brian, Kelsi, Tania, Evan)

Meet our new peer tutors!

Edgar (French)

Hey y’all, I am Edgar, a Biochemistry major, minoring in French studies and on a Pre-med track. I am a commuter student. I started learning French in high school and loved to learn French culture from all the Francophone countries. I am a first-generation student from a Mexican family and a native Spanish speaker. I choose to be a tutor not only to practice my French but to help others on their adventures in discovering the French language and culture. Hopefully, I can help you achieve some level of success and ease some frustrations you may have.

Ian (German)

I’m a transfer student and a senior. I attended College of DuPage for three years and I got my Associate’s Degree there. I started learning German in high school and I fell in love with the language immediately and I got super passionate about learning it. The reason why I decided to learn German was because I was influenced from an early age by German culture. I felt like I lacked culture before learning German and now I feel like I have a culture that I can connect with. I am interested in peer tutoring to help people who may be struggling in German and to encourage them in the process. Learning a foreign language can be challenging, but it’s also very rewarding and useful in our globalized world.
