Creating a Roadmap for Success

Hello Graduate Student,

Happy New Year! We want 2019 to be a great year for you.

Campus Spotlight

January is a good time to start thinking about housing for the next academic year and how to avoid common pitfalls. The University of Illinois Tenant Union provides a wealth of information and resources, including help finding apartments, reviewing leases, providing tenant-landlord conflict assistance, and maintaining information on landlord complaints.

Academic Calendar
The Graduate College calendar contains important dates and deadlines for  course registration and graduation as they apply to graduate students.

10th day
What is 10th day and why it is important? During the first 10 instructional days of the fall and spring semesters, students can add or drop full semester courses without additional signatures, although some courses may have special requirements. The 10th day is also the last day in which students can receive a refund if dropping to a lower tuition range. See the refund schedule on the Registrar's website.

Part of Term (POT)
The university offers courses that are shorter than the full-length term, referred to as "Part of Term" or "POT". These courses have different deadlines than the full-term courses.

Special Invitation

Each month, the Graduate College Dean holds small discussion forums with graduate students. This month, the Graduate College Dean is extending an invitation to first-year graduate students to join him in a conversation around your experience transitioning into your role as a graduate student at the Illinois graduate students. If you are interested in participating this small group discussion on Monday, February 11 at 10 am, register online.

Next Steps

The 10th day self-service add/drop deadline is January 28. Make sure your Spring 2019 schedule is finalized!

Come celebrate the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. through campus and community events, including the MLK, Jr. Day of Service.

Mark your calendars now for the upcoming Grad Professional Development Fair on Feb 20.
