Senior Abby Dizon misses the warm, positive energy of the College of Education building most of all in these strange times. The positivity from her peers and instructors of present, all the way back to Kindergarten, have influenced her personally and professionally. When asked about her aspirations to teach in Chicago Public Schools as a Golden Apple Scholar, she replied, "I am determined to inspire students and provide them with a reason to be their best self every single day."

LAS Academic Success Workshop Series
Heard how hard those PSYC 100 tests are? Worried about taking Math in college? Biology and ECON got you stressed out? Check out the LAS Academic Success Workshop designed to help students: understand college testing techniques; learn how to read test prompts carefully to determine required actions or responses; update study and preparation techniques for these complex testing environments. All Workshops are held synchronously via Zoom and open to all students. Check out the online schedule, and circle back for updates on more classes to come.

The We CU Community Engaged Scholars program provides training, connection to like-minded peers, access to service opportunities with partner organizations, and support from We CU program leaders. MLK Creative Writing Contest Awards

Summer Institute for Languages of the Muslim World
Thinking of which classes you should register for this summer? Look no further! The Summer Institute for Languages of the Muslim World (SILMW) is an annual intensive language program at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. This summer SILMW will take place from June 14 to August 7, 2021, offering Arabic, Persian, Swahili, Turkish, and Wolof. This is an immersive experience, complete with instruction, cultural activities, opportunities for language practice, conversation tables, cooking classes, movie nights, and more! Writing Workshop: February 5, 3 p.m. CST Gilman International Scholarship Program
This program provides awards of $5,000 (plus up to a $3,000 supplement for critical languages) for U.S. citizen undergraduate students to pursue summer, semester, or academic-year study abroad opportunities in other countries. This is a need-based award, and to be eligible, you must be receiving a Federal Pell Grant. To get you started, register for the application writing workshop. Visit their site for more info!
Class of 1914 Memorial Excellence Scholarship

The Class of 1941 Memorial Excellence Scholarship recognizes at least one man and one woman from the junior class who has excelled academically, and has volunteered as a leader of extracurricular activities sanctioned by the University. Fill out the application form to get started!
Bailey Global ScholarsFall 2021/Spring 2022

The University YMCA is now accepting applications for Fall 2021/Spring 2022 Bailey Scholarship for Cause Driven Leaders. The University YMCA will award over $100,000 in scholarships to U of I students who are making a difference on campus and in their communities. Interested parties can learn more and apply on the Bailey Global Scholars website.
Golden Apple Scholars Applications are Open!

This teacher preparation program provides their scholars up to $23,000 in tuition assistance and mentoring that supports the development and success of new, highly-effective teachers for Illinois schools-of-need. Illinois needs passionate resilient young educators like you! High school seniors and first and second-year Illinois college students are eligible to apply.

COVID Guideline Reminder — Essential Activities Only
For the first several weeks of classes, students should limit their in-person interactions to only the most essential activities. This also means students should avoid travel outside the Champaign-Urbana area. The target date to lift essential activities only is February 8. Remote Researcher WantedThe NSF is funding a project to design and develop a Virtual Reality game-based learning environment for college students who are using wheelchairs, and they need your help! They are seeking one junior or senior undergrad researcher who can help schedule, conduct, record, and transcribe interviews via Zoom, as well as help recruit study participants via various channels (e.g., Reddit UIUC, etc.). This is an UG-hourly remote position.
