Highly Successful Fall 2019 Involvement Fair!

Dear Faculty, Lecturers and TAs,

Wow, Week 3, and I still haven't....set up my Excel/Googlesheets grade book...created that VoiceThread...written out instructions for our Instagram project...figured out the new Blackboard....No worries! LCLC has your back.  We're happy to help you figure out tech projects for this semester.  It's not too late to decide to add or modify something.  Contact us at lclc@uic.edu.

Last week, LCLC and LCSL faculty, grad students, and undergrads collaborated to publicize all LCSL programs at the UIC Involvement Fair: we brought flyers, buttons, pens, and tons of enthusiasm, and we chatted with tons of students eager to participate in language classes, events, clubs, and peer tutoring.  Thanks to everyone who participated!  Coming next....UIC Open House September 21, where we show prospective incoming students how great LCSL programs and teachers are.  Mark your calendars!

LCLC Language Peer Tutoring for BLP students in French, German, and Italian, is in full swing.  SPANISH peer tutoring will start October 9.  Send your students to our schedule and info at: lclc.uic.edu/peer-tutoring

LCLC events in 308 Grant Hall are booming! Come for Korean Conversation Hour, Piazza Italia, Russian film, and much more.  All events include free coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and piping hot popcorn. Check out the schedule:  https://lclc.uic.edu/event/schedule-of-events-in-gh-308/

Do you have a project in mind but aren’t sure how to make it work? Is there a technology that you’d like to learn more about or possibly use in your course? The LCLC is here to help! We have tech tools for every kind of project - in any kind of class from beginning language to advanced graduate - and can help you find the best way to integrate them effectively and meaningfully into your teaching. Email us at lclc@uic.edu with all your questions!

A teaching with technology tip of the week:

 Voice Memos

Looking for a quick way for students to record themselves during in-class conversations? The Voice Memos app is a built-in feature for iPhones that lets you record, edit, and directly share audio clips. If your students use Android, they can access Voice Memos or Voice Recorder through Google Play and download the app for free. These voice apps continue to record even when the phone slips into sleep mode, so students don't have to worry about keeping the screen active for for the app to function. Recording features are also excellent ways of helping students prepare for class presentations and boost their speaking confidence, so tell them to give it a try!

UIC LCLC social media!
Encourage your students and colleagues to check out the UIC Language and Culture Learning Center Facebook page and Instagram and Twitter feeds. Stay up-to-date with LCLC happenings. Promoting our pages is a good way to ensure your students know about your conversation hour or film series.
