Christie Clinic Illinois Races--April  26-27, 2019: Participating or Volunteering

I would like to know how many people are participating or volunteering in any of the Christie Clinic Illinois Races this year?  I would love to announce names and the race you did in the May Issue of IAP newsletter and please tell me what caught your eye when you hit the streets that weekend.  

I will be run/walking the IL 10K on Saturday, April 27.  I always look forward to the jelly beans at Westside Park and to see the first marathoners pass me in that area. I like to hang around in Memorial Stadium to watch the first marathoners arrive at the finish line.  Please email Donna Miller ( with your story.


The Illinois Marathon is looking for volunteers for parking and course positions on April 26th and 27th. As an incentive to local non-profit organizations, they will pay $250 to any non-profit that can commit at least 10 volunteers to work parking or course positions, plus an additional $25 per person if the non-profit can commit more than 10 volunteers. The organization must have a federal tax ID to receive payment.

The volunteer module can be found here: All you would have to do to sign up is select Friday or Saturday, choose a time and location (note that it must be for parking or course team to receive payment), then at the bottom of the form fill in ‘to what non-profit do you belong’ with Illinois Administrative Professionals so they can track the number of volunteers. The positions are simple and training will be provided in advance or at the time of reporting. I don’t think it matters if people choose different times or even dates to fulfil the requirements, but you could coordinate with others to get the same position and time if available.

If there is not enough interest, please consider volunteering as an individual. These are the most critical volunteer positions and the cities could technically shut down the race for safety concerns if these positions aren’t filled.--Laura Owen

Philanthropy--Annual Spring Flower Sale

The Illinois Administrative Professionals 2019 Spring Flower Sale is in full bloom.  All proceeds will be used to help families in need and organizations in our area.  In 2018 with your contributions we were able to donate to the Stone Creek Church Thanksgiving basket drive and adopt-a-campus family of four.  Please note, this is the largest fundraiser of the year.

With spring upon us, we are thinking flowers! We will be working with Danville Gardens on this fundraiser. Flowers will arrive in time for Mother’s day and Graduation!

Bonus:  For every two plants you purchase, your name will go into a drawing for one free 10” hanging basket to the lucky winner.

Pickup will be Thursday, May 2, 2019 from 4:00-5:30 p.m. at the loading dock of the Natural Resources Building.  This is located at 615 E. Peabody Dr.  The dock/circle drive is located on the south side of the building on Pennsylvania Ave. Please be sure to arrive no later than 5:20 so that all plants can be distributed before 5:30 p.m.

What are you waiting for? Nominate yourself and your friends for leadership roles TODAY. It is a great way to build your professional portfolio.

The President - Will preside at all meetings of this Association and of its elected officers and will perform such other duties as ordinarily pertain to this office. Will appoint all chairs deemed necessary for carrying out the purpose of this Association, subject to approval of the elected officers and will be an ex-officio member of all committees, except Nomination and Election Committee. The President will collect reports from all Executive Board members and compile the information for distribution as an annual report to the membership no later than June 30 of the current term. At the end of the current term, the President will transfer current presidential records to and forward prior year's records with materials collected to archives.

The President Elect - Will assume office of President following term as President Elect. Will preside in the absence of the President and will perform other duties as ordinarily pertain to this office. Will assist the President in preparing Executive Board agendas and follow up on items raised at board or general membership meetings. If possible, will be liaison to Staff Advisory Council representing Illinois Administrative Professionals.

The Recording Secretary - Will keep a correct recording of the proceedings of all meetings of this Association and of the Executive Board. Will also preserve in a permanent file all records and letters (of value) to this Association and its officer’s. At the end of the elected term, this file including the minutes book, will be transferred to the successor and prior year's records will be turned over to the President to be archived. 

The Treasurer - Will assure sound financial management and accountability of resources. Will project an annual budget for approval at the July Executive Board Meeting. Will deposit all receipts of this Association and will make disbursements by University voucher. Expenditures not included in the annual budget approved each July will require presentation to and approval by the Executive Board prior to commitment. Will keep an account of all receipts and disbursements, making monthly reports to the Executive Board and an annual written report by June 30 of the current term. Will deposit the funds of this Association in accordance with Guidelines issued by University of Illinois Registered Organization Office. At the end of the elected term, will transfer the current records to the successor and will forward prior year's records to President to be archived.
