College launches new website
The College of Media launched a new website in April! We're excited about the modern design and improved navigation, with dedicated regions for news, student projects, and profiles. Thank you to faculty, staff, students, and alumni who contributed insights during this effort, as well as local website design and marketing agency Surface 51!
Media alum to lead advancement team
We’re excited to announce that alumna Deanne Johnson (BS ’90, agricultural communications/news-editorial; EdM ’14, human resources development) is our new assistant dean for advancement. She will provide strategic leadership in supporting the development efforts for the College of Media, as well as craft and execute comprehensive plans to meet annual fundraising objectives. Johnson has extensive experience partnering and collaborating with campus stakeholders from 10+ years of successful fundraising at Illinois, serving previously as senior director of advancement in the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Institutional Advancement. She also has worked in both advertising and print journalism. Johnson says she is excited to create a new, inspiring fundraising vision for the College of Media.
Faculty Research Spotlight
Chambers features pioneer of diversity in advertising in his next book
Tom Burrell is the subject of an upcoming biography by Dr. Jason P. Chambers, associate professor of advertising, titled: Positive Realism: The Life of Advertising Pioneer Thomas J. Burrell. Chambers’s research on Burrell not only looks at his contributions to advertising, but how his story, like many others, can inspire a new generation of professionals in advertising that will continue to push for diversity and inclusion.
360º Sports & Entertainment Camp

The College of Media is hosting a summer camp exclusively for high school students. At the 360° Sports and Entertainment Camp, students will explore the wide-ranging career paths in the media industry. We give high schoolers who will be in grades 9-12 in Fall 2019 a hands-on experience from every angle. Registration ends June 5.
