CORE: Paul Rolland String Pedagogy

Paul Rolland’s teachings come to life as his revolutionary book and film series The Teaching of Action in String Playing is thoroughly explored, demonstrated, and refined, instruments in hand. Pedagogues who worked with Rolland will share their unique personal insights. Rolland principles and pedagogy can successfully inform any method or approach.

 
 

Observe the Pedagogy in Action

Opportunities to observe Paul Rolland Pedagogy in action will be aplenty! Concurrent with our workshop are two camps which participants will be granted access to observe, as well as a master class for advanced players.

Certification in Paul Rolland String Pedagogy

Rolland Certification is divided into four progressive levels in content and expectation.  Upon completion of each, one is “endorsed." After successful completion of all requirements, Certification is awarded.

 
 

Special Guest: Endre Granat

Violinist; Concertmaster and Professor of Violin; Friend of Paul Rolland. Mr. Granat will present two sessions at this year’s workshop entitled: “My times with Paul Rolland” and “New Releases: Granat editions from Keiser Music Publishing.”

 
 

Conducting Workshop with Professor Donald Schleicher

Workshop participants may add on an optional Conducting Workshop elective with U of I Conducting Professor Donald Schleicher. 

 
 

Alexander Technique with Abigail Albaugh

All Workshop participants will have the opportunity to attend a presentation on Alexander Technique and Rolland Pedagogy and may add on individual or group Alexander Technique sessions by special arrangement.

 
 

Frisch and Denig Chinrest Fittings

All Workshop participants will have the opportunity to attend a presentation on “Establishing the Instrument Hold, Equipment” and may add on a chinrest fitting by special arrangement with Lynne Denig.

Private Lessons With Workshop Faculty

Participants interested in adding on private lessons with Workshop faculty may do so by special arrangment with the faculty member of their choice.
