From the AITS Time Capsule: 1987

In September/October of 1985, The Integrated Circuit newsletter was created to serve the administrative computing community of the University of Illinois. The publication condensed existing newsletters The Message Queue (Urbana) and Computing Issues (Chicago) to provide a unified newsource for administrative computer offices across the entire University. Individuals were encouraged to submit ideas and articles using a 5 1/4" floppy disk.

In January 1987, AISS announced the installation of a new electronic mail system.

AITS Service Desk Chatbot Released

To assist with frequently asked AITS Service desk questions, the Innovations Service team released a new chatbot in July, at https://www.aits.uillinois.edu/get_help/frequently_asked_questions.  The chatbot will be trained on new topics as user conversations are analyzed and rolled out to additional UI System Office websites over time.  Check it out and tell us what you think! All feedback and chatbot name suggestions (yes, we're going to give it a proper name!) can be submitted to aitsinnovation@uillinois.edu.

Lynda.com Upgraded to LinkedIn Learning

We are excited to announce that Lynda.com will be upgraded to LinkedIn Learning on Thursday, August 8, 2019. During the upgrade, Lynda.com will be unavailable. We anticipate Lynda.com being down for the entire day. After the migration, your Lynda.com account will not be accessible. Your training history will be available with your new LinkedIn Learning account.

Two days prior to the upgrade, all users should have received an email from Lynda.com/LinkedIn reminding you that the upgrade will be occurring. After the upgrade, all users will receive a second email requesting that you activate your account. If you do not activate your account, you will get a reminder to activate your account one week after the upgrade and again in 14 days after the upgrade.

All the same great course content will still be available on the new LinkedIn Learning platform. If you downloaded the Lynda.com app to learn on the go, you should download the new LinkedIn Learning app. The biggest change you will probably notice is the new LinkedIn Learning Logo and the color scheme. If you have a LinkedIn account, you will have the opportunity to link it to your LinkedIn Learning account.

If you have any questions about this upgrade, please contact your local IT Help Desk.

Outdoor Workspace Update

We are pleased to announce that the concrete has been poured and set to complete the final phase of our outdoor workspace! We would like to thank Facilities and Services for all of their hardwork on the project. A thank you also goes to our employees for their patience in getting the workspace complete. We hope you enjoy it!

Gerty Groundhogs Get New Homes
If you have been in the Gerty Building as of late, you may have seen the live traps place near the groundhog holes. With the help of Facilities and Services, The groundhogs are being relocated to a secluded wildlife enviornment as families where they can happily live out the rest of their days. This relocation is necessary to keep both the groundhogs and the people of AITS safe as the groundhogs are causing significant structural distress on the building. As much as we have loved watching our groundhogs grow and play at the Gerty Building, it's time for them to find a new home. If you have any questions or concerns please contact AFM at AISSAP@uillinois.edu.
