From the AITS Time Capsule: 1994
The Integrated Circuit newsletter was created to serve the administrative computing community of the University of Illinois. Individuals were encouraged to submit ideas and articles using a 5 1/4" floppy disk.
Current employee, Marty McLain wrote the piece below announcing that AITS (formerly AISS) would be providing improved dial-up access across the campuses!

Smoke and Tobacco Free Campus
Just a friendly reminder that the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign is a 100% smoke-free and tobacco-free campus as of August 2019. The new smoke-and-tobacco-free policy applies to everyone – students, faculty, staff, students and visitors. The policy includes all forms of tobacco, including but not limited to chewing tobacco, snuff, snus and dissolvable forms such as orbs and strips. Vaping devices such as e-cigarettes and juuls are still prohibited. The banned locations include all campus-owned property (PDF) – indoors and outdoors – as well as private vehicles parked on campus-owned property.
For more information about the smoke-and-tobacco free policy, please see the Campus Administrative Manual and visit the Smoke and Tobacco Free website. To help faculty, staff and students adapt to the new policy, the campus will continue offering a variety of tobacco-cessation programs through McKinley Health Center and Campus Wellbeing Services.
We ask everyone to respect the new policy to create a healthy environment for our entire university community.
Staff Parking at Gerty
AITS staff should utilize campus parking permits to park in the north or south Gerty lots. You can obtain your parking permit by contact the Parking Department. Staff should not park in the private lot next door to the Gerty Building. Public Safety has express concern over the walking route that staff may take to enter the building.
