Italian Pasta making, Chinese Moon Festival, and Korean Thanksgiving in the language oasis

Dear Faculty, Lecturers and TAs,

This week LCLC hosted a celebration of the Chinese Moon Festival led by Xuehua Xiang and a Pasta-Making Workshop hosted by Italian's Carrie Pichan. Both events were joyous and delicious! All LCLC events in 308 GH are free and open to the public—that's you and your students—and all include free coffee, tea, and fresh popcorn. Sometimes they also include pizza (German) and cookies (French)—at least this week! Encourage your students to check out our calendar and plan to join us: lclc.uic.edu. If you want to plan an event for your students, contact us at lclc@uic.edu.

LCLC and LCSL, including enthusiastic undergrad volunteers, will be publicizing LCLC Peer Tutoring and all LCSL programs at UIC OPEN HOUSE on Saturday. We'll have two tables: one at the fancy new ARC (across from UH) and one in the Quad. If you're on campus Saturday, stop by to grab some candy and chat with about 15,000(!) prospective UIC students and their parents.

LCLC Language Peer Tutoring is happening: open to all BLP students in French, German, and Italian (and to Spanish BLP students starting October 9). Let your BLP students know—click here for the tutoring schedule.

Have an idea for a project or a problem with carrying one out? We're here to help: email us at lclc@uic.eduOur Workshop this week is Gather and Organize Online Materials. If you can't make the time below, email us to set up a one-on-one appointment.

UIC LCLC social media! Encourage your students and colleagues to check out the UIC Language and Culture Learning Center Facebook page and Instagram and Twitter feeds. Stay up-to-date with LCLC happenings. Promoting our pages is a good way to ensure your students know about your conversation hour or film series.

Weekly Workshop:
Gather and organize online materials Do you want your students to do research online? What about create a multimedia project or portfolio? If you’ve ever asked them to do this—or tried to do it yourself—you’ve probably realized that keeping tabs on all the different websites, images, videos, and documents is hard. Fortunately, there are tools that can help you and your students better manage content you find online. In this week’s workshop, we’ll show you 5 online curation tools—Paper.li, Elink.io, Bulb, Kudoboard, and Flipsnack—which you can use to gather and organize online materials from websites to images to videos to PDFs. These are great tools for student research and portfolios, and also for instructors who want to create resources for their students, so bring your syllabus and/or ideas!

Can't make the scheduled workshop times? Email us to set up a meeting at the LCLC or in your office: lclc@uic.edu
