With the advent of fall and the new academic year we bring you a new slate of employee wellness activities. We have new classes starting almost every week in October. This issue also highlights other campus resources, and provides helpful tips on how to stay healthy this autumn.

Illinois is now 100 percent Smoke and Tobacco-Free
Our campus is proud to now be 100 percent Smoke and Tobacco-Free. This expansion of our policy took effect in August. Besides smoking tobacco and vaping, smoke-less tobacco use is now banned on all campus property, both indoors and outdoors. Read on for more details about our new policy, and resources for quitting or managing cravings.
Mindfulness Meditation classes start on October 1
What are you doing on Tuesdays during lunch? Our mindful meditation classes are a great way to tame your mind and prepare for the second half of the workday.
Kristina Reese, Studio Manager of Hatha Yoga and Fitness leads this series. Each week, Kristina will guide participants through gentle meditation techniques. Methods vary week-to-week to give participants a taste of different ways of approaching meditation. The program builds gradually over eight-weeks as participants become more comfortable meditating. The sessions are appropriate for all levels of practice.

Dare to Dream starts October 9
Dare to Dream provides a unique approach to life planning
Are you looking for a way to live your life to the fullest? Would you like to explore how to realize your life goals and make your dreams a reality? Take our Dare to Dream class! Dare to Dream offers a unique approach to life planning. This six week program provides an opportunity for participants to actively visualize where they would like their personal and professional lives go, and creatively strategize how to move towards realizing their dreams. Sessions are fun and interactive. Group support, honest introspection and creative expression are encouraged. This class will be led by Tiffany Macke, Community Development Educator for UI Extension.

Prudential Pathways Financial Wellness program starts October 10
Our ever popular financial wellness program returns this fall. Starting Thursday, October 10, employees can learn the essentials of sound financial wellbeing. Themes addressed in this five week series include:
- Understanding fundamentals of financial wellness
- Building your road to retirement
- Protecting you and your loved ones
- Creating a solid plan for the future (parts one and two)

Two campus breast cancer awareness events set for October
To celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Colleges against Cancer (a campus student organization) is hosting two breast cancer awareness events in October: Pink Week and Hope Talks.
Pink Week T-Shirt Sales: On the Quad, October 7 to October 11, from 10 AM to 4 PM (while supplies last). An annual tradition, Colleges Against Cancer students will design, make, and sell these unique shirts on the Quad. The shirts are very popular and tend to sell out - come early to get yours! All money supports Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Hope Talks: These informational and inspirational talks will be held October 23rd from 6 to 8 PM in Lincoln Hall 1020. Topics include breast cancer awareness, current research (including research on campus), and prevention. Survivors, students, and researchers share their stories. Everyone is invited to come listen and engage with them.

Freedom from Nicotine starts October 22
Have you ever thought about quitting smoking or tobacco? Are you tired of being addicted to nicotine? Are you concerned about the recent reports of vaping related disease, but aren’t sure you can quit on your own?
Campus Wellbeing Series will offer the proven Freedom from Nicotine program starting October 22. This program works for smoking and tobacco, and vaping addiction.
The program is open to all employees, students and significant others. There is a small materials charge of $25. Employees can be reimbursed this fee if they attend at least six sessions.
When and Where:
- Dates: Seven Tuesdays, starting October 22 (There is also a session Thursday November 14 – this is quit week)
- Time: 5:15 pm – 6:45 pm
- Place: Room 108 Bevier Hall
- Who: Employees, students, significant others
- Cost: $25 (Employees who attend at least six sessions will be reimbursed)

Go With Gratitude starts October 24
Want to be happier? Take our Go with Gratitude class!
Enhance your overall quality of life through cultivating an attitude of gratitude. Research suggests that people who intentionally increase positive emotions like gratitude are healthier, happier, and more resilient in coping with life’s challenges.
This unique program is highly interactive, and focuses on self-discovery. Participants will explore simple ways to feel more grateful, and express gratitude in daily life. Each week participants will participate in small group discussion and engage in a fun gratitude activity. A gratitude practice to continue during the week will also be provided.
When and Where:
- Dates: Five Thursdays, starting October 24
- Time: 12:00 noon - 12:50 pm
- Place: Illini Union Bookstore Building, 4th Floor Lobby
- Cost: Free!
- Who: Employees
