An inside update on services provided by the University of Illinois Foundation
Expiring Recurring Credit Card Outreach
The Foundation recently started sending emails to donors whose credit cards affiliated with a recurring commitment will expire at the end of the next month. Donors are invited to contact the UIF Cash Desk with updated information to continue their support. The response has been very positive, with many donors reaching out to share the updated information. Questions may be directed to the UIF Cash Desk at email@example.com or 217-244-2706.

TED Service Pack Upgrade
Service Pack 20 was applied to TED on October 6, 2019. Upgrading TED and keeping it current with the most recent releases allows the Foundation to meet regulatory changes in a timely manner and keep current with the most up-to-date patches and enhancements of Blackbaud CRM. The Service Pack 20 included an enhancement to the UIF Online Giving Payment page. UIF’s Online Giving Payment page is now integrated with Blackbaud’s new Checkout experience.
Online Giving Enhancement - Blackbaud Checkout
Checkout is a mobile responsive payment form that provides a secure and simplified payment experience.
Once the donor and gift information are complete on the UIF Online Giving Payment page, and the Continue button is clicked, the Checkout form renders on top of the page to enter credit card information and securely complete the donation. Once the donor completes the gift online, the gift process remains the same, with gifts being processed in the normal turnaround time of 24-48 hours.
The implementation of Blackbaud’s Checkout will allow for the functionality of digital wallets (MasterPass, Visa Checkout, and Apple Pay). The digital wallet functionality will be coming later this year and a separate announcement will be made when that enhancement is available.
Cut the number of clicks it takes to enter plan data by 50%!!!
Entering Meeting Attempts
Three outlines have been added to TED that can help! Each of these templates should be used to enter an attempt to schedule an appointment. Note that the values have been defaulted to ‘Attempted – Not Reached’ because we know that gift officers hear back less often than not. Defaulting to this means less work for you as you will only need to update if you do hear back from the prospect.
- ANR – Email Meeting Request
- ANR – Phone Meeting Request
- ANR – Social Media Meeting Request
Entering In Person Meetings
Three additional outlines will assist you in documenting your meetings and planned future steps:
- Steps | Qualification Meeting Secured
- Steps | Cultivation Meeting Secured
- Steps | Solicitation Meeting Secured
Each of these outlines includes four steps:
- Email Meeting Request – Used to document your communication securing the appointment
- In-person Meeting – Used to document your face-to-face appointment
- Follow-up items for fundraiser (internal) – Used to plan any administrative follow up to be completed by the fundraiser. This could include anything from internal communications with faculty to researching planned giving vehicles
- Follow-up to prospect (external) – Used to plan any follow up items promised to the prospect. For instance, planning to deliver an impact report to the donor as a follow up to the in person meeting.
TIP: Use the Edit Steps and Edit Additional Details Buttons to Save Time Entering Plan Data. Clicking on edit additional details will bump out a plan step window that is easy to edit.
Graduate and Student Loads
2019 Fall Student data and 2019 Summer Graduate data have been loaded into TED.
Take a look at the TED Calendar for all future load dates!
Monthly Faculty Staff Data
October Faculty Staff data will be loaded this weekend into the University Appointments area under the Relationships tab in TED. Monthly Faculty Staff data is pulled from Banner on the 10th and loaded into TED on the 3rd weekend of each month.
CVENT Registration Data Flow NOW IN TED!!
A bridge has been built connecting the TED Events Module and CVENT. The registration data started to flow over from CVENT for all single level free events starting Monday October 14th and will pull data on a daily basis. This will allow all registrants who register in CVENT to be batch loaded into the matching TED event. REMINDER: This bridge will ONLY function for single level free TED Events. Multi-Level events and events with fees will still need to have all registrants manually entered into TED by your team.
To ensure the best results, the following checks are suggested for all TED Events:
- Ensure Registration Options are enabled in your TED event
- When submitting an event registration page request, ensure the entire TED event ID is entered correctly
- Keep in mind, only single level free events will apply for this TED-CVENT Bridge
As many in the Advancement community know, the Foundation is working toward a launch of a ChatBot on UIF donor-facing sites, including online giving, to provide donors an additional service option. A ChatBot uses artificial intelligence (AI) software to simulate a conversation (or a chat) with a donor. The ChatBot was a project approved as part of the initial UIDEA batch.
Thus far, the ChatBot has been tested by UIF staff and will be shared with the entire Advancement community on October 16th, for additional testing, review, and feedback. The goal for the launch to serve donors is November 4th. Watch for the email requesting your help and feedback!
For questions, contact The ChatBot Team at firstname.lastname@example.org.
