Last week's events at the LCLC!

Dear Faculty, Lecturers and TAs,

Wonderful events sponsored by Chinese (Experience China) and Japanese (Hiroshima, Nagasaki, & BeyondBB) last week attracted big crowds. This week, the Piazza Italia features a workshop by Elizabeth Herrera, Director of Career Development and Major Exploration: "Marketing your Italian." Join us at 2PM Wednesday October 30th in 308 GH for this event.

LCLC Language Peer Tutoring was also very busy this week. Our undergraduate tutors and tutees are enjoying their collaborative conversations. Meet our tutors and find the schedule for peer tutoring on our website.
Teaching 104 or above in Spanish, French, German, or Italian? Your students can be peer tutors next semester!

Here's another sneak peek at one of the many events planned for International Education Week: 'Nature morte' (Still-Life Drawing): A still-life drawing class instructed in French by French MA student Hannah Martin-O'Brian. We will start with a few fundamentals of still-life drawing and then progress into more long-session drawings. We will provide various still-life scenses, paper, and pencils. All levels of drawing and French are welcome. November 22, 12:00-1:00 in 308 GH.

We're looking forward to your ideas and questions about every kind of technology in the classroom, from navigating Blackboard to creating a class website. Come to this week's workshop, led by Spanish PhD student Juanita Calvo: Enhancing Video Materials, Tuesday 3-4 and Friday 1-2! Or email us at lclc@uic.edu to schedule an appointment about this or any other teaching with technology topic!

UIC LCLC social media! Encourage your students and colleagues to check out the UIC Language and Culture Learning Center Facebook page and Instagram and Twitter feeds. Stay up-to-date with LCLC happenings. Promoting our pages is a good way to ensure your students know about your conversation hour or film series.

Weekly Workshop: Enhancing Video Materials
Whether you are already using Panopto or considering using it in the future, you may be interested in learning to add interactive elements to your content. Did you know that you can create and share bookmarks with your students? This can help you and your students easily locate important scenes or moments in the recorded lectures, for example. Panopto is convenient because it is already integrated into Blackboard and can be accessed by all instructors and students. Are you looking to create your own interactive video with original content outside of Blackboard? If so, there are numerous other options for interactive video tools such as YouTube Studio Creator Classic and Verse that allow you to create and edit captions, link to other content, and share original videos. Drop in to one of our workshops this week to learn more about Panopto's social features and other interactive video tools.

Can't make the scheduled workshop times? Email us to set up a meeting at the LCLC or in your office: lclc@uic.edu
